HDMI sound not working

I have an Asus P5N-EM HDMI mobo which is plugged to my Samsung HDTV with an HDMI cable. So far the picture from the PC is great but I can't get the sound going. I recently found HDMI audio in the bios and turned it on but still no sound.

Any ideas ?

Re: HDMI sound not working

My HDTV has an option for HDMI audio. The choices are Auto, Digital or Analog. My T.V. is hooked up to a digital receiver though and the sound through a 5.1 system. Maybe you need to change to the appropriate setting.

Re: HDMI sound not working

Do you have a compliant HDMI cable? I don't know if it matters if it is an HDMI 1.2 or 1.3 cable, but it might. HDMI is kind of new to me and I remember a friend trying to make sure his new tuner that he was buying was HDMI 1.3 compliant.

Re: HDMI sound not working

This is the cable I'm using ...

nGear NG-HDMI-MM-6 HDMI M/M 6FT HQ Video Cable - DirectCanada

I have been on the phone with Samsung a few times and from what I understand the sound is supposed to come through the hdmi cable. So in effect the analog audio in gets muted out when using the hdmi connection.

This makes since because I connected my cable box with the same hdmi cable and the sound makes it to the tv.

In looking into the bios of the mobo P5N-EM HDMI, hdmi is set to auto.
I have played around with some other settings but no joy.
I found one Intergade HDA Codec SPDIF as default.
There is a HDMI option but has no effect.

Re: HDMI sound not working

I decided to go with a Vista install and yes the HDMI driver that came with the motherboard and the update from the Asus site worked but I cannot select any other speaker configuration than stereo. I now have sound thru the hdmi connector. It was not selected by default in vista but after that minor adjustment it's good.

During the driver install the sound stops working after the hdmi driver and starts working again after the update, same thing in XP.

Not happy with this kind of crap from Asus ... nothing on their site to address these issues.

I hope Asus comes clean ...
