Help with DV capture

ok guys i have a samsung dv camcorder. I am trying to capture the video from the camcorder, but i cannot see any video in any preview windows. I have tried using showbiz, nero, and have had no luck. I know windows sees the camcorder, but I am unsure its talking to it properly. Any one have any idea's ? It has worked previously, but it has been a long while since i tried capturing any thing. Is this a sp2 problem? Is there any way to make xp reinstall drivers or something? Please help I am very frustrated with all this. I can take my setup over to a friend computer and it works just like it is supposed to work. So i know it is a issue with my computer. Please help!

Can you see the camera in the Device Manager? Are you using USB2.0 or firewire? With the camera off, plug the camera into the computer, then turn the camera on. The computer should install drivers if necessary and you should see it in the Device Manager. If you can see it, you most likely need to configure your software.

ok i am using firewire, yes it shows up in device manager and shows to be working properly. yet using showbiz it gives a transmit/capture or communication error. I know it sees the camera because in the counters for the video tape it shows the correct tape position, then will give me that error. in nero it sees it also and i can control the camcorder thru nero as far as start, stop, etc but stilll no video. it gives me no errors. in sonic my dvd it says no video device even thou it is in device manager. I have tried even removing the 1394 controllers and then scanning for changes it finds them and reinstalls them along with the camera. all looks like it goes ok no exclamation points, etc and still no video.I have also uninstalled all of the video capture software and tried them one @ a time still nothing different. Do you think this could be a issue the microsoft patch i keep seeing referenced would fix? i am unsureof the kb number i hope you know the one i am talking about. Thanks

There may be some specific issues with your camcorder and/or SP2. There are some Microsoft articles HERE dealing with firewire, maybe you can find something there.
Do you need to select a capture driver with your software? Maybe an incorrect capture driver is causing the software to not connect with your camera.

Usually, there is a setting that allows you to pick your capture driver. Most of the time it's a DV capture driver, which you want, or an analog capture driver. The "Preferences" or "Options" menu is usually where it is located, sometimes on the capture window of your software.
Any issues with your particular camera or WinXP? It might be a good idea to check out the Samsung website.
