| Can anyone tell me how to transfer video from my DV camera to my PC for editing and to burn on DVD? My camera (Panasonic PV -GS120) has a DV output port that i assume needs a DV to Firewire cable. However, my computer does not have a Firewire port. What do I need to be able to transfer the video from the camera to the PC? On a side note, what is the best software for my editing project? Thank you for all your comments!

Sammy2066, No, I have not. It sounds like you burned your video directly onto the DVD media without editing, correct? I want to transfer to my hard drive for editing. Thanks for the suggestion though .

| Why not use the software and Firewire that comes with your camera, and, buy a Firewaire PCI card? |

| The best way to capture from a camera that has a firewire connector is by firewire cable into the computer. As others have suggested, buy a firewire PCI card. Capturing via firewire has zero signal degradation since the data (video and audio) is captured exactly as it comes from the camera with the appropriate envelope for .avi (Windows). Also, DV already compresses the video by about 5 to 1 which makes the data stream relatively easy to capture. How about using the free Microsoft movie maker that comes with Windows XP? (if you're running WinXP) I never used it but it should work for your initial efforts. (I use the RTX100 card and Adobe Premiere.) Skyhawk |
