Question LCD TV Choices -- Need good advice

I've been looking at some of the Black Friday deals that are coming up and I've here are some of my choices:

Sharp 46-inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Samsung 46" 1080p LCD HDTV

Sony 40" Widescreen 1080p LCD HDTV KDL40S4100

Insignia 47" 1080p LCD HDTV + Blu-Ray Disc Player

I'm finally upgrading from a Mitsubishi 55'' projection TV I bought over 5 years ago that has broken down. My viewing distance will be between 6ft and 13ft and I have a Sony surround system with an upconvert DVD player I mention the Sony system and DVD because it is Bravia ready. However, the Insignia has a Blu-Ray player with it. Decisions... decisions! I'm trying to stay around the $1000 range (thus the Black Friday deals) and want 1080p for sure. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey bud I've got the Sammy 4671f 46" and its been just great. The 46 Sammy you listed is newer and of that list you put up. I'd go with the Samsung 46" 1080p LCD HDTV.

Re: LCD TV Choices -- Need good advice

Thanks Skully, why do you like yours (picture, look, extras)?

Anyone else have any comments. I'm actually leaning toward the Insignia one for several reasons. I know it's Best Buy's own brand but reviews seem positive, it's 47', and it comes with a free Blue Ray player. From what I've read most Blue Ray players are pretty good and I don't have one yet.

I don't know where you've been getting your info from but you really need to do some good research

ditto as above...all Blu-Ray players are definitely not the same

unless you just want to get any HDTV and Blu-Ray then your choices are fine

I currently have a 50' Samsung DLP HDTV for 2+ years running now and couldn't be happier...did a TON of research before buying...but thats just me

ahhh...the memories

Re: LCD TV Choices -- Need good advice

polonyc2, you need to realize that I'm trying to keep the purchase around $1,000 (thus the Black Friday deals). I can't drop $2,000+ on a TV at this time. If the Insignia isn't good tell me why or give me a link that talks about it. I went to Best Buy and looked at a bunch of the LCDs and I didn't like the picture quality of the Samsung, it looked washed out to me. However, the Insignia was right next to a Sony 46' and looked very close in image quality. It also has 3 HDMI connections compared to 2 with the Sharp. I would love to get the Sony but it's just too much for me now and at the size I'd want (46') the 40' version is just too small.

if I were looking to get a 1080p HDTV the first thing I would do is get a 50' set minimum in order to be able to really experience 1080p...I understand your budget thing but try to look for some sales online...I bought my 50' for a few hundred less then $2000 (although purchasing the extended warranty raised the price)

as far which to buy, I havn't been paying close attention to the industry after buying mine...gave me a headache researching which one to buy 2 years ago so keeping up with it now is too much

but as a general rule of thumb you can't go wrong with Panasaonic, Samsung (which was the best during my purchase), Sharp, Sony or Pioneer

but even before that you have to decide between plasma, LCD, DLP...excellent place to go for purchasing advice/knowledge is the AVS forums---those guys are hardcore experts

a really quick search online netted me this good looking set...didn't go through the specs and it is a bit over $1000 but hey it's a start...good luck

Re: LCD TV Choices -- Need good advice

Samsung makes all most all lcd panels for most manufactures (Sony included) and you don't know how Best Buy has these TV's setup at the store, they can make any TV look better or worse by the settings used, Getting a TV from Amazon will save you lots with free shipping and NO TAX.....good luck and enjoy your new TV!

I purchased a Toshiba LCD from newegg. The price was $300 less than the store and the $180 I saved in tax paid for the exended warranty. Shipping was free.

I just re-read your original post and I forgot you were looking at black friday deals. Keep this in mind if you don't buy then.

I chose the Toshiba because the picture quality was as good as any of them and the screen had a matte finish. I have a lot of windows and I still have a glare issue. I can't imagine what it would be like with the glassy finished Samsungs. If it weren't for the finish, I would have bought the Samsung.

That is the biggest bunch of bulloney I have heard. There are only 5 companies in the world that actually make LCD panels, not one. Kindly do a little research in the future before making that claim. Phillips LG and Sharp happen to be a couple of the actual panel manufacturers that other companies use.

The quality of an LCD Panel depends on which manufacturer actually made the panel.

You know I'm getting sick and tried of you always saying for me to get my facts straight you are a real pain in the ***. Samsung makes the panels for Sony,JVC , and others, I said all most not every single one! When I was selling my copy of Vista you came in and said something about getting my facts right when it was perfectly clear it was a retail copy (it was in the title of the post) but you posted before you read the whole thing! You only post to tell someone there are wrong, it must be just wonderful to always be right and PERFECT......Kiss my ***.....

I don't need your bulloney either, so KMA, with your always posting the wrong information, and that's getting sick and tiring seeing that garbage all the time. Fact is, is you can't stand the truth, so kindly shut up.

You're so totally wrong it isn't even funny, you have no hard evidence to back your claims up.

End of discussion, before I say something that will get me banned permanently.

Actually, FVbounty is correct. Samsung is manufacturing a lot of panels for others now. Sony included. One thing to remember that different models may have different panel manufacturers.

Sony has recently announced they will be switching from Samsung to Sharp for most of their panels.
