| Monitor loses signal when Windows logs in (Win7 RTM) Intermittently the Monitor loses its signal and goes into standby mode when the Windows 7 Login screen appears. It only happens on bootup, never when on the Desktop. When it happens, I hear that Device-Disconnected Windows sound (like when you unplug a USB Key). To recover the signal, I need to either reboot the PC, or pull out and plug in the DVI Connector. When it connects, I hear the Device-Connected Windows sound Monitor = Benq FP222W 22" LCD using DVI cable OS = Windows 7 Pro 64bit RTM (Full legit, not a dodgy copy) VGA = nVidia GeForce 260GTX (Gigabyte) Mobo = Asus P5B Deluxe (Intel 965 Chipset) * It never happens in XP (I Dual Boot Win7 and XP). * Its been happening since day one, so its not caused by software I've installed. Its a very fresh install. * Sometimes it happens when I enter the nVidia Control Panel. * I use the same resolution and colors in both OS's. * I've tried Forceware 186.18, 190.38 and 190.56 * I've tried connecting the Monitor to the other DVI Port * I've tried fooling around with the Displays in the nVidia Control Panel * I've tried changing the refresh rate to 59hz (its now rounded down in Win7) * Ive ran WindowsUpdate, which installed a Benq Monitor Driver, but that didnt help. ![]() I'm stumped... others are using the same nVidia Drivers and have no problem with their DVI Monitor and GeForce 2xx card. Basically all the drivers installed in Win7 are from the RTM Disc, I only installed drivers for the Sound, Display, and LAN. Again, XP works fine so its not a hardware problem.

| Re: Monitor loses signal when Windows logs in (Win7 RTM) That is weird, I'm running two Dell 24" lcd's on a Nvidia 8800gts and running the latest drivers with no problems, I wonder if your cable is getting bad, but that doesn't make sense because it doesn't do it on XP....you've tried everything I would have done, have you tried going into control panel in Power Options and set it to never turn off the monitor and never go into sleep mode?

| Re: Monitor loses signal when Windows logs in (Win7 RTM) Its not a PSU problem. I have a decent Antec TruPower PSU (instead of a cheap generic PSU), plus stressful 3D games run fine. I dont think its a power/sleep issue since its happening on bootup, rather than happening 15 minutes after idle. I've installed Forceware 190.62 WHQL, so far so good (two boots successful). But its intermittent so we'll see.. [EDIT] spoke too soon. I went into the nVidia Control Panel, when suddenly the Monitor loses Signal ... This is the fourth nVidia driver Ive tried... what else could it be? Why isnt anyone else seeing the same problem? And why isnt it happening in XP?

| Re: Monitor loses signal when Windows logs in (Win7 RTM) The stressful 3D games does not use multi-core CPUs . So one quad will work at 1/4 of it power = 1/4 need for electrical power . Truly , no idea . But its good to learn that it does not , one of the main reason for keeping them , its their stability . |

| Re: Monitor loses signal when Windows logs in (Win7 RTM) Its the RTM release from Microsoft (legit activated copy via technet, not a dodgy copy). build 7600. Some games I have use multiple cores, I think Far Cry 2 does and that works fine. Dirt, Wolfenstein, and Call of Juarez 2 run in Win7 with no problem. In XP I had MS Flight Simulator, GTA IV, HL2, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, Mirrors edge, Command and Conquer... they all ran fine. Plus the PC ran Vista 32bit fine, with Aero enabled. Only Win7 has the problem.

Well I'm running build 7100, so we not running the same thing, but your the only guy I've heard with that problem, it might be a bad download or something, but if it was a known problem it would be all over the net? Maybe someone will crime in here with other ideas?

| Re: Monitor loses signal when Windows logs in (Win7 RTM) I know what you are saying, but there was no error during installation (win7 setup does vigorous CRC checks) and its an intermittent problem. If it was a corrupted ISO, you would think that the problem would happen all the time. I think Win7 simply has a compatibility/communications/timing issue with my Benq FP222W Monitor.

At this scenario , by just turning the screen off & on , it should get synchronized, with out the need to reboot . | |

| Re: Monitor loses signal when Windows logs in (Win7 RTM) When I turn the Monitor Off and On, it doesn't get the signal back. I have to actually disconnect and reconnect the DVI Cable to get the signal back (or reboot, or enter and exit hibernation). This is what can happen: * Win7 boots up and logs in fine. Signal is fine until the next reboot. * Win7 boots up but the signal is lost when the Login Screen appears * Win7 boots up but the signal is lost after logging in (I think when the nVidia Control Panel is initialized) * Win7 boots up and the signal drops out after logging in, but the signal comes back 10 seconds later * Win7 biits up and logs in fine, but as soon as I launch the nVidia Control Panel via the Desktop, the screen drops out Again, the monitor works perfectly in XP so I believe its a Win7 or nVidia driver issue. Maybe I should try rolling back to the default nVidia drivers supplied from Win7's Driver Base and see how that goes.

| Re: Monitor loses signal when Windows logs in (Win7 RTM) I dont think games would run well with the stock WDDM drivers lol But I'll give it a try anyway when I get the chance.
