my new Blu-Ray player

I finally took the plunge into Blu-Ray...was waiting for the new 3rd generation players to come out and they finally are available...after extensive research I went with the Panasonic DMP-BD60 Profile 2.0 Blu-Ray player...the price was decent and the player itself is one of the best available

the BD60 was just released this week and I got it for $299 w/free shipping which is a bargain compared to what Blu-Ray players cost when they first came out and also a lot cheaper then my HD-DVD player

Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blue Ray DVD Player in Home Single Disc DVD Players at JR.com

the main things I was concerned about was A) picture quality and B) upconversion of standard DVD's...the PQ is pretty much top of its class since it uses a very high end chip...upconversion is also very good (but not HD quality)

some of the features include Viera Cast functionality which allows you to view YouTube videos over your TV as well as viewing photos through Google's Picasa web album...with the possibility of more web content being added later on...for me video quality was most important though so the Viera Cast feature is not a big deal

the front panel includes an SD card slot and newly-added USB port...you can plug a 1GB card into the former to store downloaded BD Live content, while the USB lets you play DivX, MP3 and JPEG files...too bad it didn't come with built-in local memory...the only negatives I can see so far are the load up times and lack of Wi-Fi which is included with Samsung's latest Blu-Ray player

this is one amazing player and for the price you get a lot of good stuff...now I can really start building a movie collection without worrying about the format dying...my first additions: The Dark Knight and 300...I also want to buy an animated movie but am torn between Ratatouille, Wall-E and Kung Fu Panda

here is a nice review of the BD60

cool...Panasonic has the ability to add Netflix and other sports programming to its Viera Cast lineup in the future...Viera Cast will also deliver Amazon Video on Demand services to the new Panasonic Blu-ray players this June

for the price this player is an absolute bargain
