Odd Soundcard problem-need Help Troubleshooting!

Have an Echo Mia that I use for all Windows audio fucntions and all audio apps (Sonar, ACid Pro, FL, Project 5, etc). Works fine in those apps, but have not used them recently.

I also have a Hercules Game Theatre that I use for the MIDI connection to my keyboard. No audio functions.

I recently have been getting lockups or system hangs when trying to play simple downloaded mp3 files from the internet (Soundclick or Digital Sound Planet), or I get no sound when playing a simple internet video file. Or, finally I get no sound or a lock up with a screech when trying to play an offline mp3 file from the hard drive. There does not seem to be a specific situation that casues this.

This then requires a reboot to get sound back in Windows. When trying to reboot-the system hangs and I have to use the Reset button on my computer.

No Windows error screens. No system problems otherwise. Passes all torture tests fine (Memtest, Prime, Hot CPU, etc).

New OS install (XP Pro Sp2). Both soundcards pass Windows DX Sound tests with no problem. No problems in Device Settings.

Did not have this problem before and I am going to the same sites I have been using for months.

Only recent change was installing Quick Time. I did uninstall it (they don't make it easy) but still am having some odd problems. I actually had it installed before for months before reformatting with no problems.

Is my Echo Mia soundcard going bad? Does this sound like any known software issue?
Any help is appreciated.

Unhappy

Well, it just happened again and I was getting no sound on anything-websites, in Windows XP itself, mp3's off of the hard drive, Adobe Audition, etc.

I switched all audio over to the Hercules Game Theatre in Windows without rebooting.

All audio came back with no problem.

I think the soundcard may be going.

Got a suggestion to only use the MIA in audio apps like Sonar/Acid Pro, etc and to use the Hercules for all basic Windows stuff.
Things seem to have calmed down a bit tonite.

I wish you the best at working out the problems. At least the Hercules card seems to be working. It is my guess that most of us have little experience with an Echo Mia soundcard, myself included, and cannot offer much advice. Of course, there may be a hardware conflict between the two.

Well, there did not used to be but maybe Windows Media Player 10 sees 2 soundcards loaded or something and calls them both and all hell breaks loose.
I was using WMA 9 until lately.
Will see how this works.
