SB X-fi Titanium woes

Got my new case today and decided to try out a new X-Fi Titanium PCI express. Never could get past "unknown device...HD bus". When installing the drivers from the CD, they went through the motions of installing - but at the end, still unknown device exclamation. When I tried to install downloaded drivers it would stop the install indicating the drivers installed are newer!

Tried PCIe slots above and below GPU. Same issue.

I suspect a fresh OS installation may solve the problem. Just don't feel like going that route now. Suspect I never did get rid of my older Audigy 2 drivers. Of course Creative does not make it easy to do that, Reinstalled the Audigy 2 - no problems.

Any ideas?

try using Driver Cleaner or Driver Sweeper (freeware) to get rid of the older Creative driver remnants...I know that Driver Cleaner offers a Creative driver removal option and I think Sweeper does too but not 100% sure

Re: SB X-fi Titanium woes

Thanks polonyc2 - I downloaded driver sweeper. Analysed and seen a bunch of Creative's junk. Next time around I'll go into safe mode and run driver sweeper first.

Thanks again.

Re: SB X-fi Titanium woes

Make sure your onboard audio is disabled. Other than that I would say it is the older cards drivers interfering. I am in the middle of a new Vista install and I've had no problems installing the drivers. I fully install the driver/app CD then there is a Creative Auto Update download on MS Windows Update site that I use. It checks for Creative Products and updates all the installed apps and latest drivers. No problem with my sound card working and it sounds great. Good luck.

Re: SB X-fi Titanium woes

Also---if you have an ATI Card that has HDMI-----make sure that sound device is disabled in the Sound Control Panel

Creative has some new drivers out since 28 July as well

Re: SB X-fi Titanium woes

I got it. Thanks for the input all.

It was in fact my older Audigy drivers interfering. I followed Creative's convoluted method to remove old drivers and when that was done I used cleansweep on it. Was able to installed new drivers from the CD. Just updated them through windows update.

Sound is great now. I can even tell the difference from my older Audigy2.

Thanks Again.

By using this software , never needed again any other cleaning utility.

I use it to clean anything as drivers or applications , that did not remove important registry entries by their uninstaller .
Or by their damaged uninstaller .

After using this software , Windows lets you start a clean install,
and all the old files or registry entries , are now free to be overwrite d ,
and replaced by the ones of the current installer .

Re: SB X-fi Titanium woes

Jim just for your info Windows 7 has the drivers for your sound card built in, starting with RC 7100 build, worked perfect for me on this rig, in fact I just updated drivers on a W7 update for the X-Fi....
