Does anyone know of a good standalone mp3 player?

sorry... i meant software.
Basically, I want to listen to music at work but since i don't have authority to install any applications, i figure i'd take my flash drive and put some mp3s in there with an application to play them (if that's possible)

Yes, there is a nice small no install multi-media player called Fusion, which will work fine from a USB stick. You can grab it here (get the "no install version"):

BTW, it does video as well as audio, and it is only about 200k in total size.

I believe Media Player Classic can be used the way you are intending as it is simply a standalone .exe file.
