Video over CAT-5

I have a challenge to figure out.
I need to send video from a laptop to a data projector approximately 200'.
1. Video cable and signal boosters are expensive and... just too Analog

2. A friend said he's heard of mpeg4 encoder/decoders that work with a simple crosover of cat-5 cable.

Does anyone know of these devices? Are they recommended? Are they cheaper than video (i.e. coax or VGA) cableing?

Thanks.

Check out http://www.videolan.org/

Requires a server

buy a CCTV Balun converts coax to cat5, you will need two

you can buy ones for svideo and rca also

You have to meet the mininum data rate between machines, 50-100mbit for optimal throuput, which usually depends on a number of things; quality of ethernet equipment, computers at both enpoints, drive speeds, etc.

A 100baseT ethernet network is plenty fast for video. I watch DVDs across my network all the time. Yes, videolan is a nice setup but you probably don't need the videolan server. Even wireless 802.11b is often good enough for lower bitrate video like the latest mpeg 4 variants.

All you need is a laptop with 100mb ethernet and S-video out or vga-out and a projector that accepts it. Move the laptop next to the projector.

Ive installed CCTV systems that use Cat5 cable rather than RG59 using Cat5 means you can use longar runs than what RG can do
