Thoughts on Alienware?

Hey guys, I've been browsing around here for a while. I'm not too technical when it comes to building systems so I'm curious if any of you own or are familiar with Alienware computers.

I have an older m7700 Area-51 laptop. It's awesome, but I really want to get a new system altogether soon. I was checking out their page and came across something called Breed. Anyone know if this is a new system launch?

It's at alienware.com/breed

I'm assuming it's some viral campaign or whatnot for a new system. Anyone have info on what they're going to announce? I'm really looking forward to a new system. Thanks for any help

Re: Thoughts on Alienware?

I wouldn't touch Alienware with a 10 foot pole. Their stuff is seriously overpriced and some of your choices on parts are limited such as the case, PSU and motherboard. I'd recommend something from their parent company - Dell - if you don't have the technical know-how to build your own computer.

I've always preferred Falcon Northwest over Alienware...

Re: Thoughts on Alienware?

My Sager 5793 has been very good to me so far. High-end gaming laptop, 8800M GTX graphics, really nice 1920x1200 17" panel, under $2500.

I found it humorous a poster used their first post to "fire and forget" about an Alienware 'viral campaign'.

Re: Thoughts on Alienware?

That was a good find, I paid a little more for my Inspiron. Makes me sort of wished that I waited. But all in all, I'm pretty happy with what I got..........

Re: Thoughts on Alienware?

For what Alienware charges, I can go in to a local computer shop and get a decent custom build laptop from a local computer shop, with 2GB's of ram, mobile Core 2 Duo cpu, choice of 32bit or 64bit Vista, 512MB Nvidia mobile graphics board, for under $1800.00.

Absolutely right.. Gateway fx has specs even better than that, for under $1300...

Re: Thoughts on Alienware?

The price I mention is for the fastest mobile Core 2 Duo cpu. With the lowest end mobile Core 2 Duo cpu, the price compared to Alienware is under $1500.00 at the local computer shop for their custom build laptop.

Gateway, much as I hate them has better specs than the Alienware.

Re: Thoughts on Alienware?

Today, you would want the latest centrino2 core 2 duo, and Gateway offers a medium end 8400, however I'm yet to find a clear list of all of the latest available Centrino2 processors...

Re: Thoughts on Alienware?

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I never got around to replying but let me start by saying that I'm not very technical when it comes to specs and self-building. I much rather prefer a professional-built system with good customer service if something breaks. If I had the time, I would but I just can't.

I'm pleased with my first AW so I see no reason why not to get another. Anyways, I'm writing because I actually noticed they released a new episode of this breed campaign sometime earlier this week. The animations are cool and all, but I'm wondering what we'll see from them. In the new video they show a 'baby' predator case (for their desktops) so I'm assuming that they may launch a new predator case design or desktop model???
