Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition issue

I'm doing a fresh install of Vista 64bit and had installed AVG anti-virus and then Ad-Aware Anniversary edition.

The Ad-Aware app looks great with plenty of features however I struck an issue as described below:

On reboot the AVG services refused to start and Ad-Aware refused to start. Windows explorer failed to work properly with apps refusing to start up and launch tray refusing to work. Unable to un-install Ad-Aware as the un-install applet crashed. Office 2007 would not run. Essentially the windows installation was trashed.

I could have gone back to a previous restore point but I had a recent image so rolled that back and tried again, same result which confirmed Ad-Aware as the cause.

Dont know if its something peculiar to my installation, although its basically fresh install at this point (X48 chipset).

This has cost me about 2 hours mucking around and thought I should post this as a heads up for the members.

Re: Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition issue

I guess there might be some incompatibility issues with both of these programs running under Vista 64-bit?

I am running Vista Home Premium 32-bit and I have had both AVG and Ad-aware Anniversary Edition running together for a while now and haven't had a single problem.

Re: Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition issue

I didnt expect there to be any conflicts between the two... at this point its either a 64bit related issue or something to do with my installation.

I was able to reproduce this issue so it wasnt just a glitch. The installation was fresh with SP1 and all recommended patches installed and is running perfectly otherwise.

strange... has to be a 64bit issue I think.
