| Thanks FF. Read a little further on in the thread (again) and found the Resize Search Box extension. Does the trick with no effort. I think the biggest "missing" feature that I'd like to see is IE's "Send Page..." command, where you can send the whole page via email, rather than just a link. I use that thing several times a day. Anyone know of a solution for that? Quote:

| Firefox crashed on me recently and since then things have been acting strangely. Upon restarting FF, after the crash, I got an error stating something about default user in use, so I had to create a new user to continue. After creating new profile I obviously lost all my settings: bookmarks, preferences, etc. I figured out how to restore my default profile, but still wierd things are happening. I have a few desktop icons that I wish to delete, but I'm unable to do so. The icons I try to delete say they are in use... Scans for virus, ad-ware, spyware, etc. come up empty. I've never came accross this before and am stumped as to what to do to correct this. Please help as this is bugging me to no end. Thanks! |

| It does sound like you may have a virus/trojan on your system. Did you try running Cwshredder? You may want to try reinstalling Firefox.

| The crash must have corrupted the install. Removing and reinstalling may be the easiest thing to do.

| This is generally caused by a corrupted profile. Search for my thread that gives instructions for updating FireFox, I think it was for 0.7 to 0.8 or 0.8 to 0.9 - about 3 months or so ago I think. Follow the instructions in that, it will instruct you how to save your bookmarks, history, passwords, etc., but delete both the program and preferences. You will need to reinstall your extensions and themes, but you will save the rest of your non-profile info. |

| BTW, those instructions are for the older versions of FF and refer to "Phoenix" the old name. The new correct directories are now located at C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox and C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox, instead of the ones referred to in those instructions. |

| This is really bugging me. Unistalled/Reinstalled FF to no avail. Still can't delete the files on my desktop. The error I get exactly is this: Error deleting file or folder Cannot delete xxx: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. |

| OK, close out FF, open Task Manager, see if FF is still listed in the second tab. If so, stop it. You should then be able to delete the desktop icons. |

| I have tried that before PCBruiser. No other firefox programs/processes running in task mgr. I guess I could try to boot into safe mode and delete from there. |

| OK, here's another way as well you can try - safe mode may work also. Your desktop icons are in C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Desktop. Go to http://www.snapfiles.com and download and install MoveOnBoot You will find it using their search function. Then right click on those icons in Explorer in that folder, not the desktop ones, and schedule them for deletion on the next boot. Reboot and they should be gone. | Thanks for your help PCB! I've read about MoveOnBoot before. Thanks for reminding me about it. Now is my chance to try it out. That should do it. |
