Question IE5.5 SP2 + Quicktime 5 is no go.

Hello everybody.

I tried to install Quicktime 5.0.2 today, and it went well. But when I try to play movies in IE5.5 SP2, they just won't show at all. I have tried both examples at Apple's Quicktime-site, and neither the pic or the streaming move gets shown.
I have verified that the plugin is indeed in the IE plugin directory, and I installed it as Admin (I use Win2k SP2).
I've also tried re-booting a couple of times, and fiddled with the settings.
Could it have something to do with ZoneAlarm Pro? It shouldn't, since it doesn't work when ZA isn't running either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IE 5.5 & QuickTime 5 - same problem here

I am having the same problem with the IE 5.5 SP2/QT 5 combo. Netscape will work fine with QuickTime 5, however. Hopefully Microsoft and/or Apple will address this issue soon.

well unfortunately alot of the stuff on that wild and wacky place we call the internet is encoded in Quicktime format. Microsoft hopefully will get in gear and fix it soon

For the time being, might as well re-install a previous version...

Thanks a lot Tom!

Read it over at TheReg and thought I should post it here, but you beat me to it.

It's not every day a fix comes out this soon after the problem was found. (Yeah, don't go Linux on me though...I know! )

Seems like it was IE not accepting the old Netscape plugi-in API.

Here's the wierd part. I've experienced the Quicktime problem with IE6 on a Win98 machine, but not on my three Win2k/IE6 machines.
Quicktime works just fine with IE6 and Win2k, at least for me.

I prefer Quicktime for viewing movie trailers and use Media Player only when I have to.
