Thanks Gareth (and also Tom and jafo).

Now I'll just wait and see what problems/benefits people have. Too chicken to be among the first myself...

Edit: I installed it anyway. Browsing and general response is quicker. I like what I've seen so far. Don't have the full take on the new security-features, but since they've crammed more security into it, it can't be worse anyway (apart from any new safety-holes of course ).

One thing I noticed upon reboot is that it messed up the McAfee VirusScan v5.21 Webscan feature.

I'm not sure about Norton AV 2002 which isn't even in shops yet but as for 2001 PRO, it doesn't support scanning of IE downloads. Only netscape.

gareth- are you sure that norton 2001 does not support ie scan? i'm using norton av corporate edition and it has the feature, i've not paid much attention to whether it is working in ie5.5 but it is enabled and i have no conflicts with it.

I'm using SystemWorks 2002 that has AV 2002 and it does not support IE downloads either, but it does have a couple new options (for 2000, i don't use 98/ME anymore) it scans email before sending it. There are not that many changes from 2001 so i would not recommned paying money for this version if you already have 2001

it sounds like you have to use "norton av corp ed" to get m$ exchange realtime protection. thats a shame that nort didn't include it in their system suite av.

Norton is another company that ****** ppl off. They release new software every 3 months. I'm wondering if I should purchase 2002 for XP now or wait till Dec, when an Norton AV 2002 "PRO" version will be released. And its not as if they have updates at a lower price. All we get is $20 off rebate and thats only for US citizens.

I really recommend at least trying Norton AV 7.51 Corp Edition, it may not be for everyone but having tried the older McAfee stuff and Norton SystemWorks 2000 and Norton AV 2001 I would have to say they seem to have finally got it as close to spot on as we've seen so far! The others all have problems and some huge overheads - but NAV Corp - not a single gliche so far and you hardly even notice its there.

Hmmm, I've been running my PIII-866 stable at 1008MHz (155/155/38) until I installed IE6, then I couldn't even boot up. I had to back down to 1001MHz (154/154/38) to run it and even then my cpu runs a few degrees warmer. IE6 does seem to run better and solved some of my problems, but I read that the Netscape plugins have been taken out and Java is completely unsupported.

Well, I went ahead and installed it because I am a sucker for new stuff. It seems to work fine. But it does trash McAfee webscan as stated previously.
