(except onboard audio) I like this!! Once I can get the TimeZone and Area Codes to fill in correctly, I'll start messing with adding the stuff to install the hot fixes, updates, etc. Last edited by Mark_Venture; 09-07-2003 at 11:56 PM..

| I'm glad to see you making progress Mark How about you, flyboy? I am getting a little further. I still cannot even get it to install but it boots, it no longer gives me that error about txtsetup.oem causing an error but I now have to press f6. It goes on it merry way, and like a good little OS it skips that stupid eula, and goes right to the part where I select where to put my what partiion/drive I want to install to...... then it starts to copy but I get an IMMEDIATE error something like "Unable to copy fasttx2k.sys setup cannot continue press f3 to exit installation." Anybody have an idea? I mean I am using the same floppy and if I try to install from my regular cd I dont have this issue. Tam |

| Mark, I noticed something in your winnt.sif file. Could you help me out here? I have highlighted the area of your winnt.sif that interests me..... Under "unnatended"..... OemPnPDriversPatch, you have listed Promise FastTrack 376 drivers. I do not have that in my winnt.sif file. Do you also have a TEXTMODE folder containing your files that sits parallel to yoru $1 folder? NOT IN IT, next to it? Or do you have this in your DRIVERS folder? Because maybe this is my problem. BECAUSE THAT IS EXACTLY MY PROBLEM with the installation, with the fasttx2k.sys file not being found. It may not be the answer because I get an error even when I take out any reference to the raid drivers. But to restate the question. Do you have a TEXTMODE file and where? And do you also have the Promise drivers in your DRIVERS folder? Quote:

| So far so good for me, but I get the 'Who will use this computer' window popping up... I enter my user name, and the install continues without interaction... (I'm starting to like this!) How do you enter the usernames that will use the computer?

I am having that problem too. I am sure tehre is a way. I am making some progress. If I dont press f6, and try to setup my RAID via textmode, I still get that crazy error. "file \$OEM$\win2003\fasttx2k.sys could not be loaded. Error code 18". I tried loading using f6 anyway, and it did install, and all went perfectly but as soon as it started to copy files it gave me the same warning, "file fasttx2k.sys could not be loaded, press esc to continue" so I ignored that file, and all four of my files, "Fasttx2k.cat, fasttxtk.INF, fasttx2k.sys, ptibmf.dll" all of them couldnt be copied but as I had clicked F6 and loaded the files manually I thought it would be okay, that it was still just reading the txtsetup.oem file...... but sure enouhg windows installed fine, with a few major quirks, but my major os, my C drive, which had this installation on it, could not be found. clearly the raid drivers were not installed. I coudn't even access the boot.ini to get back to my primary OS. So I had to repair the secondary installation using my regular CD and then could boot and all was okay. I have (I thought) removed any reference to the win2003 files in my txtsetup.oem file. BUT the files I am using are later files which do have win2003 as the default. Here is my txtsetup.oem file: ................................................................. [Disks] d1 = "Promise FastTrak 376/378 Driver Diskette", \fasttx2k, \ [Defaults] scsi = FastTrak_TX2K_xp [scsi] FastTrak_TX2K_xp = "WinXP Promise FastTrak 376/378 (tm) Controller", fasttx2k [Files.scsi.FastTrak_TX2K_xp] driver = d1, fasttx2k.sys, fasttx2k dll = d1, ptipbmf.dll inf = d1, fasttx2k.inf catalog= d1, fasttx2k.cat [HardwareIds.scsi.FastTrak_TX2K_xp] id="PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_3376", "fasttx2k" id="PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_3373", "fasttx2k" [Config.fasttx2k] value = "", Tag, REG_DWORD, 1 ............................................................................ if anyone can understand my muddled thinking and offer suggestons I would be very happy. tam

| well I AM a genius LOL NOT!!!!!! My problem was that I still had the floppy in the drive and my windows installation was reading from IT and thus was trying to install default drivers from the FLOPPY which ARE win2003. DUH!! so another piece of the puzzle solved. Now it wont suddenly let me install on my secondary drive. Sorry for the gibberish Tam |

Same thing with my other machine (Asus P4P800 Deluxe), the drive I am installing Windows to is NOT on the VIA array controller, its an LVD SCSI drive connected to an Adaptec 2940U2W card. But I doubt I'll get rid of the scsi drives in this system anytime soon to need that.
