| File renaming in XP Explorer? My camera produces two different file naming conventions, depending whether I connect the camera by USB cable (currently lost) or by removing the memory card and putting it in a USB holder. How can I change a group of names within Explorer? I can't even rename one file in the Command Prompt (let alone dozens), for reasons that totally baffle me, since I've done the in the past, and I am following the XP help directions for the Command Prompt. I can change one at a time in Explorer, but that's too painful. SO, how can I change a group of file names within Explorer?

| Re: File renaming in XP Explorer? Well as far as I know your camera names all the files the same way. But if you use windows camera wizard or other software to download the pictures from the camera the names may be changed. I use a free tool called ReNamer. It takes a little time to get used to it but it is very powerful. [den4b] - Denis Kozlov

| Re: File renaming in XP Explorer? OK, I've tried the batch rename in Explorer linked by Acid8000. But that produces zillions of Picture 77 (x) variations, where x goes from 1 to a large number. But I want Picture 77, Picture 78, etc. Guess I'll look into ReNamer. Thanks Gents

| Re: File renaming in XP Explorer? Further re the last post: I used Explorer to transfer the files from the memory card (in a USB holder) to my computer hard drive. The other approach I've used is to connect the camera via USB cable, and STILL use Explorer. The two approaches result it IMG 0001.jpg etc AND Picture 0001.jpg etc BOTH using Explorer.
