XP Pro working fine/SATA drives not detected.

I just completed a very successful new i7 920 build (please see my specs below).

I've been reading many articles about XP not recognizing SATA drives, and the various techniques to get XP installed without a floppy.

My problem has a somewhat different slant. I was able to install XP Pro just fine on a Seagate 250GB SATA drive. My new build posted and booted up without a hitch. I loaded the SATA drivers from the Asus P6T motherboard disk. However, during the boot sequence, a message said "no hard drives detected". The system runs just fine. When I look in the bios, both SATA drives are listed and are running under IDE Enhanced.

I'm wondering if there is a procedure I can perform that will remove this message and have the drives properly recognized? I'm also wondering if I am losing some performance from the SATA drives set as IDE Enhanced? I don't want to reformat and reinstall XP with the system running so smoothly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: XP Pro working fine/SATA drives not detected.

This surely is a controller message from either the integrated SAS controller or the IDE channel where no drives are installed. The SAS controller has its own BIOS as does the PATA controller. If you don't need them you can disable these to get rid of the unwanted message. It may also improve bootup time because these controllers don't perform any checks anymore. If you went for IDE-Enhanced on ICH10R you may have traded off a little HDD performance if your drives support NCQ (Native Command Queuing, a technique which enables processing of multiple I/O requests in a single transfer operation) which is only available in ICH10 AHCI or RAID-Mode.

Re: XP Pro working fine/SATA drives not detected.

Thanks so much for your advice! I disabled the SAS controller in bios, and presto, no more message. Plus, XP Pro boots a bit faster.
