Don't plan to go Win7, keeping Vista 64-bit

I am going to put Windows7 on my notebook. But, don't plan to change my #1 system from Vista 64.

I will change the 32-bit OS notebook just to stay current with knowledge of Windows technology.

Here are some of my thoughts posting for debate.

Since Vista 64-bit is basically the same as Server 2008, I don't believe that as time goes on, any real important system updates (not Graphical Interface) will be not added to Windows Vista Updates.

Vista 64-bit is not that old. Based on how long MS has supported XP, I anticipate that the same support will be extended to Vista.

Windows 64-bit support is slow to become available from 3ed party providers.

MS has just starting to get this Vista right. Plus, it took me a long time to configure the default setup of installing everything to a well working custom installation.

Windows 7 will probably be buggy when first released.

The rush to market of Windows 7 is due to bad Vista PR. The real improvements are not yet available. Originally, MS had a release date of Windows 7 over a year from the new release date.

From what I read, the 20 min upgrade. One of the problems with Vista was that your average homeowner has trouble with a Vista upgrade. The Windows 7 upgrade will be mostly superficial allowing a simple upgrade and configuration. Many people just will not read the configuration instructions and hardware preparation information before making the change. MS has learned a lesson. You see this with many components offered to Windows 7 as an add-on only.

I don't like the icon bar view. I have 3 monitors (all with independent bars) and have known how to adjust the open programs view size for a long time. I have the space and want to see the extended bar views.

I don't like the added features of Internet Explorer 8. I am keeping Explorer 7 for now. I found myself disabling to to-much of Explorer 8. I anticipate much of the same with Window 7.

that's my main issue with Windows 7...everything else I've gotten accustomed to or can tweak to my liking...but IE8 has so many 'features' that I have to disable and even then it doesn't feel the same as IE7...I wish there was a way of using IE7 with Windows 7

Windows 7 does have some nice improvements in functionality and GUI over Vista...but I think Vista 64-bit is fine as an every day OS...I havn't decided whether or not I will make the jump when it is released (or maybe wait awhile before upgrading)

Re: Don't plan to go Win7, keeping Vista 64-bit

As an XP Pro user having moved up to Win7 beta I have no doubt that I'll make it permanent when the final comes out or shortly thereafter (early 2010 most likely). It will be a good time for a new build anyway and I hope 64 bit driver support will be more mature by then.
