Liking Vista second time round, question about downloaded exe files

Put Vista back on my laptop (that it came with), having a lot of fun with it. Enjoying IE7 too. Mind you only thing I do with the laptop is browse web/email and watch movies, still have XP on my real computers.

Anyway, just wondering how I can turn off that zone information (ie. this file came from another computer warning when you try to run it) from being saved - easy to do in XP with registry tweak, but from doing searches needs GPEDIT.MSC to disable and Home Premium doesn't seem to have it. Same deal when trying to run executables off my network, get an annoying warning first.

Re: Liking Vista second time round, question about downloaded exe files

One other question, do I have to install the Windows Live messenger or is there a simpler version somewhere that I'm missing?

Re: Liking Vista second time round, question about downloaded exe files

Im pretty sure it dosent come preinstalled with vista, but you can install it easily if you havent already. I know there has been some controversy with compatibility (which is becoming a classic with vista) but im pretty sure its all fixed, so your good off.

You can always install trillian, the upside is it's a much less intrusive install and it works with aim,icq and yahoo as well.

I don't mind the bloated Live Messenger but that My Sharing Folders link has got to go...

Re: Liking Vista second time round, question about downloaded exe files

Another thing about Trillian is if you buy it you may be able to get the beta version of Trillian Astra. It is not a finished product yet, but it gets better with each new release. Updates are frequent and I am very happy with it so far.

Nope----I have Vista Ultimate 32 Bit-----and Windows Live Messenger is (download) in the Start menu>>>All Programs as well.

Surprising----I thought MS would push that on you like they used to do Windows Messenger......
