| I dont think it is that great an idea, as I can't see how you would be able to delete such a folder. crabby |

| I tried it on 'Computer', the 'Recycle Bin' and the 'Adobe Reader' icon, and like the fact that the desktop looks cleaner; I don't need names to know what those icons are anyway. I didn't go through properties though; just right-click > Rename > Alt + 0160 and click anywhere on an empty space of the desktop. |

| http://live.pirillo.com/ - Chris is a maniacal tweaker when it comes to Windows. From desktop wallpaper all thy way to totally replacing his shell, he loves to customize his system to fit his tastes. This time he may have gone a little too far when he created an invisible folder in Windows Vista. To get an "invisible folder" you need to do two things: Rename the folder to an invisible character. You can do this by renamed the folder and using ALT+0160. You should now have a folder without a name. To get rid of the icon right click on the folder, select properties, go to customize, and change the icon to a blank icon. You now have an invisible folder! In order to delete the folder you’ll need to rename it in the command prompt by typing: ren " " foldername That’s not a space in between the quotes. You need to press ALT+1060. You’ll then be able to delete the folder. That does not work... You what does work -- System Restore removes the annoyance.

| The ren command DOES work... you just need to use the long folder name instead of the Alt+1060. To get the long name type dir /x crabby |

| Thanks for the info... but even with the step by step from chris... he never mentioned dir /x. I simply RESTORED.. faster that way, and GUARANTEED I WILL NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE ... but IMHO it is worthless anyway. I do thank you for finding how to undo.. I will add this to my NOTES.

| This doesnt need to be done in safe mode. Jut run cmd prompt as admin. find the long name by typing DIR /x Then type ren "{longname}" newfolder This will give the folder a name and you can then delete it normally. crabby |
