Red Button - First Screen

Turn on computer.

On the very first screen, where you enter your password to continue (if you use a password) there is a red box on right bottom of screen that lets one turn off computer/shut down before continuing - if one wanted to.

Does anyone know how to turn this on or off - place it on screen or take it off screen. The very, very, very first screen page.

I am not sure if it is set to be on by default or off by default - or even if all versions of Vista have it.

Thank you.

It is on by default, and it can't be removed. The screen you are refering to is the 'login screen'. It is exactly the same screen you find if you press 'Log Out' within Vista.

I can think of reasons why it is there. For instance someone without an account wanting to safely turn off an unused PC.

But I can't think of a reason to remove it... why do you want to?

Reason for question.

One of my Dell Vista desktop computers has it, one does not.

My only deduction is that somehow it was turned off or never turned on. I never turned it off and it does not show up on one of my desktops.

I would like to put in on or turn it on on the desktop that does not have it.

It isn't there? Then how does one switch off the PC without logging in?! :scared:

Ok, I 'll have to have a look around for you.

What versions are each PC? I presume both came preinstalled?

Sorry, and thanks for looking. My mistake. It is there. I either have 'oldtimers desease' or a lack of good memory or both.

Sometimes my mind wanders and I have one heck of a time finding it again!

If you use a PASSWORD to Login the RED BOX is there.
If you do not use a PASSWORD to login the RED BOX is NOT there.

I do not use a PASSWORD so the RED BOX is NOT THERE.
