| Sharing a printer I cannot connect my laptop to my desktop on my wireless network to use the printer. Both are Vista. I had no problem with my old desktop that ran XP. I think I have done everything I am supposed to do. I am using the MS Windows Vista Inside Out book for reference. The problem seems to be in the desktop. Anybody got any Ideas? Thanks, Ned |

| Click the Start Button > Type Network and Sharing in the Search Box and hit Enter> Make sure Printer Sharing is turned ON > Go to Password Protect Sharing and make sure it's Turned OFF > On Network (Private Network) click Customize and make sure Private Network is selected.

| I had already done that. When set my laptop to search for a printer nothing comes up. The printer works fine from the desktop. The printer is just not showing up on the network. Thanks, Ned |

| You must make sure that Network and Sharing are same on both computers. You probably have done this, but just in case. Try using \\computer name (e.g. \\Upstairs) in the search box to see if Desktop PC can see the Laptop.

| The network and sharing are the same. Neither computer can see each other. The network printer on Jack-PC\printers is shown but the word ready is grayed out. Ned |

| I ran an Ethernet cable from the printer to the router. That did the trick. Thanks, Ned |
