Vista'd

I've been using Vista Business 64 bit for the past few weeks and was all set to post my positive experiences with it but it crashed last night

upon re-booting my system I got a blue screen which said "unmountable boot volume"...tried using the Recovery option on the Vista DVD which didn't work...tried writing zeroes to the drive using the Western Digital diagnostic utility which gave me another error "ICRC Error"

looks like my hard drive died so I have done an RMA...sucks because Vista was performing very good...will post my Vista impressions in another thread once I get my new hard drive and set up Vista on it (there are a lot of excellent Vista tweaks out there and once you apply them the OS really runs great)

for now I'm using my old hard drive with XP

Re: Vista'd

That sucks. If the drive is in warranty, get it RMAED ASAP.

I did an advanced RMA with Western Digital (they even sent me a pre-paid UPS shipping label) and I should have the new drive on Monday...I was really liking Vista 64 bit and it almost feels like a step backwards going back to XP now

Re: Vista'd

I have been very happy with Vista x64 on my rig. Occasional video issues when playing games but I would expect that with XP as well. And I am over one year now on my original install which is pretty decent for me I did have some activation issues after a bad bout of driver upgrades on my IDE Controllers .... too much at one time and I had to call twice to reactivate. Anyhow ... good luck with the drive. I will look for your posting and hope you include the tweaks you like most...

Re: Vista'd

Vista hate is very potent, and it always looks for any way to infiltrate a discussion about Vista.

You should clarify in your opening post that it was the hard drive that crashed, and not due to Vista. Up until you mentioned the hard disk, I was under the impression that Vista crashed on its own accord.

Re: Vista'd

We love ranting against Vista don't we? I personally think Vista is an excellent OS if you have the hardware to run it ...

I mentioned in my first post that Vista was performing very well with no issues and the problem was due to the hard drive...I have no issues with Vista at all

The topic is "Vista'd", it's in the Vista forum, and it took you three paragraphs to mention the real cause of failure. If there's one thing I learned about Vista haters, is they don't typically wait three paragraphs to I TOLD YOU SO and go on a rampage.

Your hard drive failed, and happened to have Vista on it. The two are not related things.

who's a Vista hater?...I keep telling you that I like Vista a lot...so what if it took 3 paragraphs?...
I would assume most intelligent people would read the whole post before drawing any conclusions...I clearly stated what was and what was not the problem in the very first post...clear as day...if someone just read the first sentence and stopped reading then that is a by-product of their reading/comprehension skills

I was able to get my hard drive working again so I still do not know what caused the crash...when I finish setting things up again I'm planning on going in depth with my Vista experience

Re: Vista'd

I removed vista ultimate and tried my business edition on my laptop and man what a difference that made. I find the business edition can be tweaked a lot better and runs a lot faster then ultimate did. Feels like i gained a few horse power under the hood now.
