Vista registration, both 32 bit and 64 bit?

Hi all,

If I buy the Vista retail wjhich is said to include both 32 bit and 64 bit, can I install each version separately, and register both versions using the same license? -- I guess there is one license only in the retail pack.

Installing different OS in separate hard disk is a kind of multi-boot system but not in the same hard disk.

You can only use the produce key for one version for one pc. Anymore then that its illegal.

Re: Vista registration, both 32 bit and 64 bit?

The license key will only work for one OS in one machine upon registration. Even 2 identical HD's have different ID #'s . However, when you do the installs don't enter the license key and you'll have thirty days before you have too. This way you can try them both to see which one you like better.

EDIT: Beat me to it SRT! Slow typer here LOL

Re: Vista registration, both 32 bit and 64 bit?

Hi all, thanks for your reply, especially zman88. The trial period of 30 days seems sensible; however, I wonder if that is long enough.

Perhaps a longer period, 60 days or 90 days would be better because we may need some specific combination of some applications to get unexpected troubles. But this is only my personal thought.

At present, the Vista Ultimate full retail pack is $319 while the upgrade version is $189. The 30-day trial has its price: $319 - $189 = $130, or a little over $4 per day (130/30). Thanks again.

Re: Vista registration, both 32 bit and 64 bit?

Glad I could help. I would go with 64 bit if you don't have a problem finding all the drivers you need. Also you should know that you can't upgrade a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit. Clean install and a 64 bit compatible CPU required for 64 bit .

Re: Vista registration, both 32 bit and 64 bit?

I don't think this is a no-no.But you can rearm Vista up to 3 times.Open the run command.then type in slmgr –rearm for an extra 30 days. Then you can decide which OS to keep. Then you need to activate it.

If you have the original Vista. Then wait till 28th day or so.Then install Service Pack 1.Then you'll get another 30 days.

Looks like MS doesn't mind. Extend Windows Vista Trial to 120 Days :: the How-To Geek

EDIT: Darn that twice today I got beat to the punch LOL

Re: Vista registration, both 32 bit and 64 bit?

I don't think he'll need SP1 to decide which way he wants to go. And when he does decide and installs SP1, things just might run a little better

Re: Vista registration, both 32 bit and 64 bit?

Yes, zam88 seems reading my mind ;-) SP1 is not the main issue. I would give it some more thought before indulging in Vista test drive. Anyway, the info shared here by many is helpful. Thanks to all.

Server 2008 can go 60 days without activation. Asking for more than 30 days from Vista is asking a bit much. People had to whine and complain for the last year to get SP1 to extend it to that much.

YEAH IT MIGHT TAKE 10 YEARS TO GET OUR APP ISSUES SORTED OUT SO WE NEED IT TO GO WITHOUT ACTIVATION FOR THAT LONG THANKS.

No.

At this point in the game, if you have a reason to believe you'll have a problem with Vista, you don't use Vista. Simple.
