| Is Vista supposed to be this buggy? I just started using Windows Vista Home Premium and have had an endless amount of bugs and glitches. I recently bought an ASUS G1 but returned it because of these bugs and glitches and because I thought the hardware was causing them. I now have a Gateway FX7020 and low and behold, Im having some of the same bugs! This made me start to think that it was my OS not my hardware. My screen has frozen up twice, to the point where i had to force shutdown, almost all of my games have crashed at least once when they were running fine (Crysis, UT3, Counter Strike Source) I think im going to switch back to XP but wanted some opinions first. THX!

| Re: Is Vista supposed to be this buggy? We have 2 Laptops here that came with Vista and I nuked em both and put XP on em, be warned that you need to do your homework first. Find all the drivers you need before you start... I have Home premium on my main rig to play with and I thought SP1 had solved all the glitches but I'm still having a few (not crashes, mind you) |

| Re: Is Vista supposed to be this buggy? I also have a G1S , but I switched to ultimate 64 bit. I have no problems and didn't have any with home premium that I was aware of. However, I installed xp pro sp2 with intel matrix drivers slipsteamed to see how it would run , but ran into a road block finding video divers for the 8600m\go. Tried every driver I could find with no luck for a week. So do your research before waisting your time. John

| Re: Is Vista supposed to be this buggy? Being thats a OEM he cant oc it. If your not using Vista approved software, games, driver, etc your will have system lockups and restarts. As for your games not working you mite need to get the latest update patch for them. |

| Re: Is Vista supposed to be this buggy? Vista Ultimate 32 bit Q6600 overclocked to 3.2Ghz Abit Quad GT 965 mobo 4-drive RAID 5 8800 GTX 4 gigs of RAM Soundblaster x-Fi have NOT moved to SP1 yet No major bugs or driver issues-----nada-----zip....and it has been (at least for me) a VERY solid operating system from first load..... Occasionally, (maybe once a week) I will get a "Com" service failure----or another service will fail but this is invariably after I have done something like load a new program or a windows update.... A simple reboot solves the problem immediately..... My complaints with Vista were all about snappiness and bloat and the way everything is THERE----but it is all in a DIFFERENT PLACE now----or called something different..... But I have 7 machines now on Vista including 2 laptops...... And I have to tell you that patches HAVE improved the snappiness.... And it DOES grow on you once you get over the initial learning curve.... And you turn off UAC!!!! I'm hoping that SP1 helps even more...... I don't think it will ever be the "Hit" Microsoft was hoping for.... But I think with time and effort------it will evolve into a pretty darn good operating system.... Just like XP did after SP2. The total problem with Vista has been it's high hardware requirements. if you don't have machines with a lot of juice.....fuggeeddaboutit Unlike XP, which was a NICE upgrade for schools and businesses with most of their CURRENT hardware----Vista requires a whole new paradighm when it comes to hardware...... And that's why I think Schools and Businesses have shied away-----purely a financial decision-----and any benifits are just not compelling enough to justify the overall cost.....
