AVG antivirus question, please help!

This is probably gonna sound stupid but how do you set AVG to delete a virus it finds?

If something like a trojan tries to get in while I'm surfing the web it pops up and stops it. This morning when it ran it found 17 virus's (sp?) but I can't figure out what I have set wrong to get rid of them. By the way, there were NONE yesterday!

edit: Actually the virus's showed up on Dec. 28th. 28th clean, 29th 17! As you can see I rarely look at the log. I figured it would delete them or give me a pop-up window.

Dang, well that won't do it.

These look like scheduled scans. Try an on-demand scan, and right after the scan see if you have additional options. It can't go back in the past and delete past infections - they need to be infections that are on the computer presently. You can view the scheduled scan results but you can't do anything with them.

Ah but what you're saying is how do you set it to automatically remove viruses it finds on a scheduled scan...good question!

Grisoft has an FAQ on their website, and somewhere in the program there's a link to download a complete help file - I have a file marked "AVGHELP.EXE" here.

SLM, You clean and or remove them thru the 'virus vault'
Open up the Control Center and access it from there.

Right. I'll try a manual scan and see if I can get rid of it that way. I'd also like to know what it is and where it came from but that really isn't a concern. Getting it gone is!

There is nothing in the virus vault though.

if i was in your place, question of how it got on my pc would be my main concern... if it got on it the first time, it will get there again. But i think i better stop posting here, before it becomes another "locally installed av soft is pointless" thread... unsubscribing.

Beleve me, that thought has come to mind also but I'll worry about that when I find out how to get rid of it. The other computer on this network is clean (acording to AVG) so I know it didn't sneak in thru it. I'll have to go from there and see what I can find out.

Thread on wilderssecurity forum regarding this:

java/byte/verify thread

keep us posted...it appears to be a relatively new threat...

EDIT: here's another thread at dslreports

dslreports thread

some folks in these threads are saying that having an updated version of Sun's java will cripple this bit of malware by not allowing it to execute...interesting...what java were you using slm?
