Commercial Grade Router

I need recommendations for commercial grade routers. My daughter needs to upgrade her router. Her business has DSL and the network is ethernet based, although she is not opposed to one with wireless capability.

I will appreciate any recommendations.

Wouldn't you rather get switches?

if she has a large business or over 20 employees i would give cisco or 3com a call and have them talk to you about what they can do for her.

then go research what they offer, cause they usually try to get you to buy more then you need.

I agree with the suggestion sorrow made, 3com is good stuff, but they will try to sell more than is needed.

If you want commercial quality your two best choices are Cisco and SonicWALL. IMHO, they make the most durable, and hardest to crack router/firewalls out there for businesses that size.

And, in addition SonicWALL has software which runs on the router itself, that searches for and protects the gateway at the full packet inspection level from viruses, malware, spyware, inappropriate content, intrusion attempts, etc. That means that even if the individual systems are lax in updating security, the gateway itself is always protected by current definitions for all of these possible attacks.

For a business with 20 people, you should consider the TZ170 (available in either wired only or wired/wireless versions) with 25 licenses (upgradable to 50 or unlimited seats with entry of a simple code available from SonicWALL) and the Gateway Security Package. For less than 10 seats maximum, the TZ150 offers the same security as the TZ170, for about 50% the cost, less some frills that larger businesses will want (a DMZ for example).

Edt: Moving this to the Security Forum and leaving a redirect in the Networking Forum.

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

SonicWall is a very good way to go. Besides Cisco there's also Juniper. http://www.juniper.net/

In case you are curious how serious Juniper is compared to Cisco: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1035_22-5902892.html

Watch out about the wireless possibilities. After seeing a print screen here on ABX showing a D-Link device allowing you to use encryption that is not part of the WPA2 standard (AES is the standard) and yet claiming it's part of the WPA2 still has me quite angry.

I'd forgotten Juniper - PR is right, they also make excellent security products. PR, I am not familar with their product line, what model do you recommend for this purpose?

When it comes to Cisco and Juniper I would rather let them talk to the business to determine their best needs.
