the free firewall is perfectly fine and I would install that if you don't wanna pay for the Pro version....the Pro version just comes with some Advanced security options that you can live without to uninstall ZoneAlarm either use the uninstaller that came with ZA or go into Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it...also look for any leftover registry entries and folders afterwards and uninstall those too

| It has some issues with SP2's popup blocker though, you can use one or the other. Both will cause massive problems, and you only get the popup blocking on the paid version. Same for the web filtering, but you do get a trial of the full thing for 30 days. It's better than zone alarm IMHO. Making rules manually is a little confusing, but unless you're trying to do something specific, (like screw with a program that's spying on you) you don't have to. It's automatic rules, and allow or deny a program are easy to use. It's good for beginners or somebody experienced with the advanced rules. I made a rule just so that little monster in spookyload's siggy can't see my ip (blocked danasoft's server) ![]() |

| I haven't used it lately but Kerio has a free version of Kerio Personal Firewall. Here is a link to a chart that compares the free version with the subscription versions. The free version has full capability for a 30 day period. The free version does not include an AV program. I used the free version at work for about a year and I was satisfied with the performance. |

| You could also check out a new FW from Finland called Jetico. Currently it's free and has the best application protection out there (stops every leak test I've tried). Although previous versions were a bit on the gloopy side, the current release (jan 21- ver 1.01.49) is running stable on my XP (sp2) machine. Although rules can be made up for it, the out of the box protection is nice and tight. |

| One more vote for Kerio Personal Firewall. It is very good, easy to use. After some trial use with ZA, Sygate, finally I select Kerio.
