| Over the last few weeks I have noted that the system performance on my main rig has been hindered some how. Today I went to play FarCry and found it took over 60 seconds to get the games splash screen to come up. During this time there is heavy hard drive activity. Once loaded the game worked fine and if I quit the game and restarted it the load times were normal. After a reboot the problem was back. After more testing I found that Doom3 has the same problem. Nascar 2004 loads normal and is not affected. After some fussing around I found trend IS05 real time scan to be the cause. With real time scanning disabled both games load up normally. I found that by disabling scanning of compressed files fixes the problem. This got me thinking so I took a look to see what differences were between nascar and farcry/doom3 and guess what both doom3 and farcry have huge compressed files. I think a update that came out in the last few weeks must have screwed up the real time scan engine. By the way I was talking to a friend today and learned of a similar problem. His mother in law has a old pent 233 box running WinME and he got a call a few days ago with her complaining of poor system performance. He went over to check it out. The mouse would stutter and it took almost forever to open or run almost anything. But he found if he disabled real time scan the problem was gone. See my sig for specs on my rig. Anyone else using IS05 have similar problems? I will be calling Trend monday and I will report back here. Thanks.

| Nope, not having those problems, as I totally disable virus scanning if I load a game to play. I noticed I get better performance in my games by doing that. I would just totally disable virus scanning, by right clicking on the icon in your system tray and select exit, and then in the dialog box that comes up, just click yes that you want to do that. Then when you are done playing the game just load Trend Micro Internet Security 2005 from program files, and the icon in your tray will come back when you are ready to surf the net.

| Seeing as I don't play a game with my NIC cable connected I close down all the System Tray apps. before starting a game, or I play it on a different OS, like W98SE.

| Well I talked to trend and they say they will look into it. I have never had performance problems running trend products including IS05 until now. I hope this is a problem with trends real time scanner and not permanent slow down in future updates/new IS versions.

| Hi wonderwrench, im not using "PC-cillin Internet Security" but @ work we use "Trend Office Scan 6.5" I was ask to pilot the new anti virus in my pc and notice a slow down on my machine (browsing other machine on the network, etc.. even the login process slow down) after searching a bit I found out what the problem was (in my case) the AV come with a firewall and run as a service "OfficeScanNT Personal Firewall" (Trend Office Scan 6.5) as soon as I disable it all went back to normal. I was reading at the Trend website and the version u have has the personal firewall as well. try to find the "OfficeScanNT Personal Firewall" (or something similar) and stop it. See if that improve the performance of the pc. Im using scan engine 7.100 still (we have not deploy 7.500) i will upgrage to the new engine and see what happens. Latest scan engine: Win NT/2000/XP 12.0 and above(U.S.Retail versions only) 7.500 Jan 18, 2005 hope that can help u... Last edited by surfandcross; 01-26-2005 at 09:05 AM.. |

| I've been having slowdown problems as well but hadn't clicked that it might be since I loaded the latest version of PC-Cillin. Hmmm, I'll try testing it with out the real time scan over the next couple of evenings and report back what I find. I had major problems upgrading my ATI driver last evening too ... but that's another story! Scottie P |
