| Virus definition update problems Using NAV 2004, for no "apparent" reason, when updating the defn's, and after receiving a confirming note that the defn's were already up to date, the status message continues to indicate that my virus defn's are out of date - regardless of how many times I repeated the process. This was the case even after downloading and using the intelligent defn updater from NAV. I then got NAV 2005, installed it and had the same identical problems - even after removing NAV 2005. The I used the free AVG - and initially installed it, did a virus scan, saw "trojan", had three 4 infected files and it "healed" 3. I had to go to work after that so I'll continue this evening, but I got a message from AVG that the defn's are out of date - exactly like the results from NAV 2004 & 2005. Anyone have a clue as to why I'm experiencing this? Do I need to back up my files, erase the HD and re-install XP? Please Help! Thanks. |

| Virus Defnition Update Problems-3rd attempt This is my third attempt to get an answer from you all about this - I hope someone has the answer. | I would run a full virus/spyware scan while in safe mode. If that doesn't fix it I would contact Symantec customer support on this one...

| This just happened to a client of mine ...the culprit in that instance was the "sobit.a" nasty....don't know if your problem is being caused by a virus, but it may well be. Like Bofinn I would start by booting into safe mode and trying an online scanner such as TrendMicro's "housecall". If it is a virus or trojan and is a self-replicating and mutating type you could be in for a bit of a fight...I agree with contacting Symantec as well...can't hurt, eh? Good luck...keep us posted.

| Please do not post duplicate threads on the same subject, it is against the rules here at ABX. If you do not get a response to a question you have asked in a thread, post an additional post in the same thread with the message ".,.bump...". That will bring the thread to the top of the queue again and indicate to members that you still haven't gotten any response to your question. I have merged your three threads on this same subject together, and will overlook the rule infraction as you are a relatively new member here, and may not be familar with our Forum practices. You might want to review our rules, which you can find using the "FAQ" button on the menu. I am also moving this thread to the Security Forum, leaving a redirect in the Win NT, etc. Forum. |
