Actually....I was thinking of equipping it right BEFORE a battle because of its high spell absorption powers.

You know, if you install the "Master Index" plug-in from Bethesda the enchanter in Caldera will make an index for you that allows for travel between all the chambers.
He'll pay you 500 septims to boot for each index you from him...

No...you don't understand...he gives you a quest to retrieve all propylon indexes from their various locations throughout the land. You get to do it "the hard way" (by fighting, searching and sometimes cajoling) but he tells you the general area in which they are located. You retrieve each one and bring them back to him, at which time he makes the Master Index for you.
The Master Index Quest was one of my favorite side-quests in all of Morrowind. I've done it three times. It was very entertaining. And long.

Part of what made me think of it, is that I've stumbled across 2 and have had them for quite a while already.

That's how I got the two I have. I have no idea where I got them. I have the index quest installed but have not yet done it.

Ok....I installed the master index plugin and have been trampsing off to find indexes. Been good so far, recovered about half of them probably....but the one I am on is not where it is supposed to be. Looked up online and I am definitely looking in the right spot.

I'm wondering if I accidentally grabbed it at some time in the past (although it doesn't seem likely) and dropped it off elsewhere. Is there any console command to "locate" an item or find out where it is?

Berandas Index. Should be on top shelf if bbookshelf at top of dome in Ars Drelen tower (Gnisis).

There is the wizard there which tells me I can have it and that its on a top shelf somewhere in there, but there are only two cases in the room and neither has it on top (nor do I see it anywhere else in the room at all).

I had to levitate to see it 'cause it's kind of dark in there. Levitation gave me time to peer closely enough to spot it.
