| Concept of HL episodic content is dead for me Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and possibly others all contribute to the delay in delivering HL2:Ep 3... according to Gabe as he discuses over here. I think the concept of "episodic" content as relatively frequent, modular, chapter by chapter updates of the unfolding HL story is actually dead. I think the way we should think of Ep3 is simply another regular expansion for HL2. The old dream of a new "episode" every few months was exciting but unfortunately it didnt happen. It was a great idea but they couldnt sustain enthusiasm for it. I think its better to think of Valve as a shop delivering a variety of interesting and immersive little first person shooter games rather than just being about the HL universe. The task of delivering a larger gaming experience, of wide immersive scope, with innovative gameplay seems to have fallen onto the shoulders of GSC and possibly Crytek.

| episodic content did not work from the get-go...all the episodes were supposed to be released 6 months apart...as soon as Episode 2 was delayed I knew this was a failure...and now episode 3 is taking a ridiculously long time...not to mention the gameplay was pretty short...I guess the theory of episodic content is a good one but in practicality it cannot be done without sacrificing quality...and to Valve's credit they are always concerned about quality over anything else...very rarely do Valve games have any major bugs hopefully Valve will make it up to the fans by announcing not only Episode 3 but a brand new full HL game...Valve's main issue with delivering a game is that they are always looking to push new technology and gameplay features which add to the development cycle (HDR, Source engine, multi-core support etc) and what kind of answer was that to the last question about whether or not we would be hearing any news about Episode 3 before the end of the year?...he just started babbling on about something totally unrelated to the question I have confidence that when Episode 3 does finally come out it will be an excellent if not classic game...it's the waiting that sucks

| Re: Concept of HL episodic content is dead for me No FV, just considering that even if they were close to done (which none of us reasonably think is true), there would be at least 90 days to get the marketing "hype machine" going... that means mid-2010 at the earliest. Wish I had any better info!
