| Re: Crysis Wasn't that a topic of conversation a few pages back? That this game is expansion pack length (if that) and not what one would expect for a fifty buck-full game? I seem to recall expressing my disappointment at this bit of news and no one else batting an eye.

I still have no plans to "upgrade" to Vista until this resolves itself and mid-level cards perform on Vista at about three times the level of my 8800GTX. The Crysis demo looked fantastic to me as a DX9 game and runs as good as it looks.

But, long before Crysis came out, it is a known issue with Vista that it sucks as a gaming platform. So, if anything, blame Microsoft. Unless maybe there's a big conspiracy. ![]()

I explored a lot of the area and terminated a lot of the opposing forces. There was only one situation in which I did stealth. I just did not have the ammo to take them all on and there were only two weapons to really use in the game, for the most part. Even though I could have eliminated a hostile and taken his weapon, you still have to find it and that can be difficult in the dark with them shooting at you. Towards the end it is obvious which ones to switch out. However, the Doom thing happened to me. I had all this ammo and gear and it was taken away. Nothing irritates me more when the designers switch me out or make me lose my stock pile. | |

We're at the point where DX10 drivers are getting pretty well sorted out. It remains now for AMD and nVidia to get much more powerful hardware on the market to run games on Vista with the same level of resolutions and options we're comfortable with on an XP machine. In other words...not for another year, if that.

| Re: Crysis Poly's screen shots just look better than what I'm getting.... Think I've found the problem though.... I have AA and Aniostropic set way high... Am going to drop them down and see what happens..... Maybe try his resolution as well. Also----XP is probably playing this game better till Nvidia can optomize the Vista Drivers...... I'm playing with the Nvidia Beta that is recommended for Crysis----but I read where Nvidia is already working on another driver to improve Vista performance.

| Re: Crysis Likely using AA is the problem. I neglected to mention previously that while I am running at 1680x1050 and graphics settings on high I am not running any AA at all. AF, yes, AA, no.

Crysis Demo: Impressions and Optimization | Tom's Games try some of their recommendations...try lowering the shadows, physics and sound settings to 'Medium' I would play with the screen resolutions first, then mess around with the graphics options and then enable/disable AA AA has a pretty big impact on the game...for me it's playable with 2X but I do notice a performance hit...for testing purposes I would turn off AA and I definitely notice immediate FPS improvement...but for me AA is a must have in any game, that's why the Unreal Engine 3 is disappointing in that it doesn't allow the use of AA (apparently it uses another form of AA in the game which supposedly makes AA unnecessary)

A game should last a while, at least 15 hours of gameplay (and I dont mean exploring every milimetre). Far Cry had what, 20 hours of gameplay? Are they going to try and tell us that it was harder to develop Crysis than Far Cry? (with all those resources they had for Crysis?) They are charging us premium price for this game and have had an army developing it for how long! and you're telling me there is about 8 hours of play there?

I have to say the half a game they give you rocks your socks off though. Multi player kinda sucks IMO to much like Quake 3. I was hoping for team, coop and death match play. Give me the other half of the game and I'll be happy. Ya right looks like I'll just suck my thumb.

| Re: Crysis It was around 9 to 11 hours of play for me and I am very thorough. I lost my tally of terminated indigenous and otherworldly personnel after 300 indigenous. Your count is in the save game descriptor. So, for $50 I feel I should have had much more than that clocked in. I do agree that multiplayer is horribly horrible. I mean it is a catastrophe, and lowers the justification of the game, IMO. I was not impressed with it at all and thought whose idea was this because they have no idea with DM is about. |
