anyone know the time the demo is going to be released?...I'm hearing 8:00 PM (EST) tonight...but no one really seems to know for sure...I can wait till 8:00 PM because I'm at work now and won't be able to play until later tonight anyway

I'm also hearing reports of a bug in the demo which in which many people are experiencing errors on launching, some saying they can't unencrypt it either....the EA forums are filled with these posts

finished downloading the demo...took 48 minutes to complete the download...

my early impressions:

damn this is gonna be a system killer for a lot of people...I first started playing at 1600 x 1200 with all Graphical settings on 'High' + 4x AA...low frame rates and not very playable...lowered settings down to 1360 x 1024 with everything on 'High' and 4X AA and the game is a lot smoother and playable but not ideal...hopefully Crytek will continue to optimize the code for this game as this is the first game my system has struggled with

as for the game itself...

nothing spectacular so far but the game does look very nice...I think making the player start off in the middle of the night diminishes the 'Wow' factor a bit as things looked a bit grainy...the nanosuit also requires a bit of a learning curve as their are a bunch of different settings the player needs to get used to (the default mapping also sucks---they made the 'Mouse Wheel' button the key that activates the nanosuit, but it is very difficult to maneuver through the settings with that key binding)

a bit too many early lengthy cutscenes which takes away from the learning curve

the game seems like it would look spectacular with DX10...the lighting, facial animations, vegetation etc look very good and I could only imagine what they look like in DX10...this game makes me want to buy a new system

Re: Crysis

It was very smooth with my system’s specs at 1280x1024 (E6700, 8800GTX, 4GB, P965, XP). When I was playing the demo all I could think is of the designers saying “let’s make a Halo like game.” I agree with you on the nothing spectacular part so far. It is nothing in the Uber department yet, but the mapping is done in such a way that it feels expansive. Add the vegetation (which is almost perfect) and I am pleased moving around. The voice over’s are too fake, and should have stayed in native tongue more with only a few very bad English spoken moments. The AI is not entirely impressive, similar to Half-Life 2. It is almost exactly like Far Cry's, better, but not in the department where you think they are alive. This is the same old stuff, and it does get tiresome after 15 years of the repeats. Oh, another shotgun, another AK, and oh some grenades……

Did you feel the motion blur started to hurt your eyes? I needed to take a break from it. One more funny thing, since I am a good shot, I have helmets everywhere. The bastards, when wearing one, get an extra chance at life.

I agree about the AI in that it doesn't seem as advanced as the designers were making it out to be...the game does feel very expansive but I havn't gotten a chance to try different methods of attack and exploration yet as I was too busy getting used to the overall gameplay...the game does remind me of an advanced version of Far Cry (which is not necessarily a bad thing)...the innovative thing about Crysis is definitely the nanosuit---so many different combinations of things you could use which change the gameplay---cloaking, extra strength etc

another interesting aspect of the game is that if you choose to play the game on "Delta" compared to Easy, Normal or Hard the enemies all speak Korean and no English at all which definitely adds a more realistic angle to the game

motion blur hasn't really bothered me

overall I'm very impressed with certain aspects of the game but it's not as groundbreaking as I was hoping for...Crytek is really shooting themselves in the foot if they release this game as is without further optimizations as the game will be pretty much unplayable for the majority of users

Ah ha, I didn't expect that! Now I know what level of difficulty to play at now. I did not even think that such it would matter for suspense of disbelief.

I am impressed with some aspects too. But as a game it is not that great so far. I gave it an 8.5 for the technical aspect and the lush world. Play wise I think it’s more like a 6. I have to admit I think this game is all about Core 2 Duo and 8800GTX at least. AMD may miss the upgrade boat with Agena if they don’t get theirs out now.

You know, I just had a thought. Capture the flag would be perfect for this game. The suit and its interval of energy are perfect for the game play. I think multiplayer could have some fun to it and I await it somewhat.

To do a timedemo

This is how you can benchmark your system:

Open Explorer and go to the installed folder for Crysis. Look for the Bin folder appropriate to your operating systems mode, as in Bin32 for x86 and Bin64 for x64. Run the GPU and CPU batch files located in the sub-folder.

Here is my GPU benchmark with forced VSynch at 120Hz:

Running GPU benchmark 1
Results will depend on current system settings
Press any key to continue . . .

Re: Crysis

The tech of the nano-suit is so advanced, that the enemy AI hasnt got a chance against me. I'm tending to use rush tactics everywhere, on normal. I'll try delta and see if its better. (I hate rush tactics).

Definetly feels like Far Cry 2. Better graphics, better physics, but otherwise same old. Took a while to setup the controls the way I like. Still tinkering with them. I think the motion blur is overdone, needs a slider so we can tone it down a bit.

Some of the textures seemed a bit blurry, especially on cliff rocks.
I'm running the demo on my 875P Canterwood, P4 3.2GHZ, 2GB of DDR in dual channel and an X1950PRO AGP card. I'd say I was getting around 20fps with all settings on high at 1024x768. 20fps should be too low, but its actually pretty smooth and playable, no hitches like STALKER. I'll do some benchmarks tomorrow.
Not a bad result, but of course that resolution would be too low for a 19"+ monitor, I'm playing the demo on a 17" CRT, and it looks great on high settings. I think any C2D system with a decent vid card would have no trouble playing the game.

I think my earlier opinion of the AI was a bit premature...the AI really is pretty advanced..it's not just their flanking and attacking techniques but they really do intelligently seek you out...even after I cloaked, the enemies still started shooting at my last known spot...it's hard to convey but they just 'feel' more real then any other game I've played

another thing I really like is the physics...the fully destructible environment is really amazing...destroying buildings, almost any object can be picked up, shooting all the trees and knocking them down and such is fun...the fact that even when replaying a certain section it plays out totally different each time based on what tactics you and your enemies decide to use really is incredible...also the little touches in the game such as the animals (ducks, crabs, birds) give the game a very immersive feel

I just wish I could get higher frame rates without continually knocking down my resolution...I'll continue to play around with it and see...I hate turning off AA but I might try it to see if that helps my FPS...how does the game look with no AA shaihulud?

another thing that bugs me about the game, which also bugged me about Far Cry, is the fact that they claim to be so open ended but as in Far Cry if you wander too far off, the guy over the radio will tell you to not go too far off course...if you don't listen a huge bomb explodes and kills you...also if you swim too far out to sea he comes on the radio and warns you that the waters are shark infested...if you ignore him a shark comes over and eats you

I also don't like the way you pick up objects in the game...a lot of the default keyboard mappings just seem weird to me...in most games I have to do a little re-mapping of keys but with Crysis I have to do a lot more

Re: Crysis

Just finished, fun game, its been awhile for me, haven't played anything in a while been waiting for my new rig, I posted this on another thread.

The physics of the game are awesome, I'm at the point where you have to take out the gps jammer, and in the truck shooting up everything, shoot a tree and it falls down, 3 birds fly overhead and watch them fall (just like duck hunting), be careful, I shot a tree and it landed on me and took out the truck...LOL

I'm only playing at 1024x768 and it plays smooth, and it takes awhile for me to get the keyboard layout, but overall can't wait for the game to come out and being able to play with everything on high should be Great!
