OR maybe I get a X38... and a current G92... and just suck it up for now ...

Or you could get a D975XBX2, 4GB of DDR2, a Quad-Core processor and an 8-class nVidia card.
And join us in glorious carnage.

Well its very tempting... the "transition" system idea... but I think with X48 just around the corner I should wait... since that system will set me up for the next year...

I think that system is more than transitional, otherwise I wouldn't have suggested it.
It offers a path to powerful Quad-Core CPU's, it will run any video card that will come out over the next several years, it supports inexpensive yet powerful DDR2 and all in a refined package.
Depending on the CPU you purchase it will run anything you care to throw at it for at least three years, with only a video card upgrade.
Plop an Auzentech Prelude in the PCI slot if you're picky about audio and you're ret' to go.

DirectX 9 vs DirectX 10 in the Crysis Demo

Below are some sample FRAPS screenshots from the demo of the PC game Crysis. They show the differences between the DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 versions. All screenshots were captured at 1280x1024 with 16Q AA and downsized. DX9 screens have all video settings set high while DX10 screens are set to very high. The game was run on Vista-x64 using a XFX GeForce 8800GTS 640MB with the beta Nvidia 169.01 drivers...

Re: Crysis

Well I downloaded the demo, but am having bad sound issues. I am running a brand new X-Fi Extreme Gamer with the latest drivers. I even have the windows sampling set to lowest. I have everything on the game set to lowest at a pitiful 600X800. I don't think frame rate is the issue though because even the music during the options screens is distorted. I don't have any other sound issues, either for MP3's or other games. Why do I think if I was running XP I would not be having this problem? Anyone else have this problem or have heard of it or even better know how to fix it? I am out of ideas. Sucks because I was looking forward to playing this game, but the sound is so bad it is unplayable.

Re: Crysis

There some sort of AMD/Microsoft dual-core hotfix that's been out for a while...have you installed that?
I've read about it in passing and is supposedly needed for Vista/AMD systems.

Re: Crysis

Sorry, Speed, no issues when using my X-FI in XP. However, I do make sure I have particular settings enabled or disabled. I do not use any EAX, CSS, et all. All the features are always disabled, and the mode before loading is set to game.

I am still running the CPU in my sig. The FX-57 is single core.

Possibly some sort of software conflict? Eventually I will look at some Crysis boards or Crytec's site and see if anyone else has this problem. Right now I give up. It's nice outside so I may just turn the music up and sit on the deck for a while...

shaihulud: That may be something to try so far as I know I do have EAX enabled in the Creative control panel. Works fine for music and everything else so far even with the sampling set to studio quality. I already tried setting it to the lowest 16bit..
