Re: Crysis

Are you in the X-Fi's Game Mode or Entertainment Mode?

(Sorry about getting the FX-57 wrong...I'm not up on AMD-based systems...)

I always leave it on game mode as I get better sound even for music with it set that way. I haven't tried killing EAX yet, might give it a shot now..

Re: Crysis

Well I tried turning everything off and same problem. Come to think of it, I had the same problem with Bioshock it just wasn't quite as bad. Stuttering sound like you get when the frame rate can't keep up. Maybe the ole' FX just can't keep up being a single core. Amazing to me that less then 2 years ago it was the fastest gaming chip you could get, now you can't even play the latest games on minimum settings? I still think it's a sound issue. I still have to research more on it just kinda a pain in the butt right now..

Crysis semi-tweak Guide

here's a nice little article giving you some tips on optimizing the graphics settings to match your hardware (Page 3)...

"If you've got some F.P.S. to spare and you want to bump a setting up a notch I'd prioritize them in this order: textures, shaders, objects, postprocessing, particles, volumetric effects, game effects, shadows, water, physics, sound"

Re: Crysis

Great find - thanks. I am confident after tweaking the demo, that I can improve upon my tweaks in the final release.

I wonder if it's an SLI issue that's unique to Vista? I had zero problems with BioShock and none with the Crysis demo.
But then I'm running a non-SLI system and XP.

Re: Crysis

Speed, perhaps the X-Fi problem is the PCI issue with the nForce core logics?

Who knows. I wasn't able to find much about it in the way of support. I guess there really wont be any until the main release. I did read that the game does not support SLi in the demo, but is supposed to in the final. I may try turning off SLi which I am not sure works anyway under Vista. I seem to get single card frame rates in everything and GPU-Z says it is disabled even though the Nvidia control panel says it's enabled.

Re: Crysis

Personally, I've always thought SLI/Crossfire was snake oil anyway.

I feel exactly the same. After having used the 7950GX2, I had a taste of what was negative with SLI. The first issue is does it work? The game and even the driver have to be able to implement. The reason as for the game is the driver relationship, most of the time you may not have to worry about it. But every once in a while a driver update happens that makes the game run at half the speed it could with SLI. The second is cost. It is not cost effective for resolution and AA. It would be possibly cost effective if there was a double of performance. After that it is small things that add up to be an overall issue. Slot and area cost of the card, power intake and power supplies needed, and finally heat.

Re: Crysis

Want to try some of the vehicles and weapons that will be available in the full retail plus a run in with the alien, then d/l and try these maps. Number 5 has most of the arsenal from the full game: Crysis-HQ.com Forum - Einzelnen Beitrag anzeigen - SandBox2 Fragen & Antworten

Just install to - C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Game\Levels\island

Make sure you backup level.pak and island.xml first.

Cheers

yeah I do not plan to go with SLi in my next build. It was kinda a disappointment and especially has problems under Vista. It took Nvidia forever just to "support" it at all (under Vista) and I still don't think they have it right. I am waiting for the 9 series real specs. I would have thought they would be out by now.
