Crysis Single Player Demo Coming Sept. 25

Electronic Arts has announced that a single player demo for the upcoming Crytek developed first person shooter Crysis will be released on September 25. Here is a snip:

Consisting of the entire first level in Crysis’ epic single player campaign, “Contact,” gamers will get to finally experience first-hand the stunning visuals, revolutionary Nanosuit gameplay and open-ended level design that make Crysis one of the most anticipated shooters and PC games of all time. The demo is also poised to include a huge surprise from Crytek

demo of the entire first level?

what's this "huge surprise" going to be??

This is an interesting tibit. Basically the developers of crysis say it is nvidia that sucks, not vista/dx10 (I feel dx 10 obsessed today):

Eurogamer: During our visit you've been demoing the game with DirectX 9. Why is that?

Cevat Yerli: For different reasons. We're still receiving drivers which are crashing, that's the main reason. We don't have a stable driver yet. We have drivers out there on the market but we are pushing the drivers so hard that we are getting all the time multi-core drivers, dual core drivers, or multi-threaded drivers essentially, with multi-threaded architecture.

Until we get it on Vista running on multi-threaded drivers we don't want to show any more, because we are getting performance impact on Vista. We don't want to make Vista look bad either, because it's not Vista's fault - it's the driver right now. So we're working very closely with Nvidia to resolve these last issues we have with systemic performance... There are a lot of driver issues on the market.

DirectX 9 just runs smoothly for us. We've been working with it for five or six years now. I would even say some DirectX 10 games out there won't look as good as ours running DirectX 9. Or as a competitor friend said, Crysis will be the zenith of graphics for probably the next two or three years. It's not me saying it, it's another guy saying it. I won't mention who..

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=82210

The whole interview is worth reading.

Some more interesting quotes:

The reason for no consoles is simple: any console development would have deviated from our efforts. It would have distracted us, it would have forced compromises because of memory limitations on those platforms. We'd have to design different levels, and it would have been more difficult to create the sensation of a living world.

Yes, we could have commercialised the engine business et cetera, but we felt that if you want to make console games one day - if you want to get groundbreaking results and do things people think are impossible, you need technologies and solutions for that.

so I guess that rules out the "huge surprise" being that CryTek will be announcing an Xbox 360 or PS3 version of the game

maybe they will announce that they are moving up the release date...after all the demo is coming out more then 6 weeks before the scheduled ship date...you never see that big of a gap anymore...usually companies release their demo's a week or so before the release date or sometimes even after the game is officially released

Man I love it!! Just proves once more that consolization does exist no matter how many developers *cough* Bethesda *cough* claim they don't "dumb it down"... oh I guess I should be polite and say "compromise"

Crysis Beta On FilePlanet

While the game's single player demo is due out on Sept. 25, paid Fileplanet users have become the first to try out a beta test of the highly anticipated Crytek-EA first person shooter Crysis. The first of four beta key batches have already been passed out but FilePlanet subs can try to get in by entering one of the three other batches that will be released later this month...

Next rig: quad core, 1600 FSB

What should the video card be?

Crysis ICE Level- First Impressions

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/cr...opslot;title;2

http://www.firingsquad.com/games/ICE_hands_on/

"What's even more impressive is that the guys at Crytek deliberately brought the DirectX9 version of the game to demo at the EA press event. While the game will still ship with both DirectX9 and DirectX10 ports, it's clear that people who still have Windows XP PCs (and that's most of you) will still get an incredible game to look at and play"

Re: Crysis

Crysis Demo Delayed

Crytek has stated that the Crysis Demo will be delayed. Originally slated for September 25, it will now be out on October 26, with the final version of the game due out on November 16. It seems likely that feedback from the Crysis public beta has resulted in this delay...the "surprise" which is to be included in the demo is the Sandbox 2 game editor

inCrysis - Guide to the game Crysis - Crysis Demo delayed - October 26
