Crysis Warhead

the game comes out today in North America!

so far the game is getting excellent reviews...a better overall game in every respect...Crytek seems to have listened to the complaints from the first game and improved upon it---better alien/North Korean AI and better system compatibility being the 2 most important improvements

Warhead is also a great value considering that it retails at $29.99

"what's amazing is that Warhead not only runs better than Crysis, it looks better than Crysis"

"This time around however the game seems to be more relentless in a Call Of Duty 4 style and you rarely get time to breathe which makes for an adrenaline fuelled experience"

"I love the intelligent gameplay of Warhead; this isn’t a game where you simply react to highly scripted events, but one where you have to think on your feet, and you’re rewarded for doing so"

Re: Crysis Warhead

Crysis Warhead just released on Steam, also offered as bundle with original Crysis for those who have not tried it...may try this one although original was a bit yawn outside of stellar graphics, imo ofc...

Re: Crysis Warhead

Wait I heard it comes out tomorrow and if it dosent I missed my first day copy!!! (nothing special just than im a huge fan )

In any case Ill install it tomorrow and see how it goes. Im not sure if im going to like how they switched the story line from playing as Nomad to playing as Psycho. Also Id like to see how the updated graphics and performance modules work out. I have waited for this game all year and cant wait to fire it up!

right off the bat Warheard is definitely better optimized

after messing around with the settings all afternoon I finally decided on it...I could play the game with decent frame rates using DX10 at 1600 x 1200 with all graphical options set to 'Enthusiast' but I would have to turn off AA...I don't like playing games with no AA...so I settled on playing with DX10 at 1280 x 960 with all settings on 'Enthusiast' and AA= 2X

I'd rather play with a lower resolution but all graphical settings maxed out rather then a higher resolution with lower graphics settings...you get better image quality this way

'Gamer' is the same as playing the game on 'High' with the original Crysis...Enthusiast= 'Very High'...followed by 'Mainstream' and 'Minimum'

I don't see too much visual difference between 'Gamer' and 'Enthusiast' but apparently 'Enthusiast' enables a few more high quality settings...game also performs significantly better (higher FPS) with the 'Gamer' presets enabled

The higher the resolution the less need there is for AA. I would have guest 1600x1200 no AA would look better than 1280x960 with 2x AA. If you were using a LCD monitor it will look better at its native resolution, aka highest available.

I see you have a 8800GT. I also have one and IMO and many others AA works strangely. NVIDIA Forums -> Anti-Aliasing problem + fix soon and NVIDIA Forums -> The Antialiasing Problem It seems as though AA is only applied to things that are close to your point of view and or not at all. Any driver new enough to support the 8800 or newer cards seem to be borked.

so far graphics look the same as Crysis, with maybe a bit more HDR lighting...game still looks amazing but doesn't have the 'Wow' factor of the first game (not yet anyway)

true...but I think that jaggies are still noticable at 1600 x 1200...although maybe when you get to resolutions such as 1920 x 1440 and above the difference is not as noticable...the difference in image quality is negligible to me when comparing 1600 x 1200/no AA vs 1280 x 960/AA=2X...they both look good with the difference being that overall performance seems a bit better for me and my 8800GT with the lower resolution...although its really hard to tell right now

Re: Crysis Warhead

Thanks for posting the great pics polonyc2 We have to wait another week down here before it becomes available Can anyone please advise on whether you can install with just a serial no. key like the original Crysis, or is it mandatory online activation crap now (unless that's for online gaming only, which will not do) I format a lot so this will mean cannot install
