Re: Fallout 3

just had an excellent firefight involving flame thrower, laser gatling gun and rocket launcher - all aimed at me!... bunch of raiders tried to rob us out in the middle of nowhere... dogmeat really helped out... I hope there is a lot more of this to come!

also I went to the aid of an apparent victim... turned out to be a bunch of sadists doing some sort of role play and the "victim" turned on me...

that's one of the first things I 'upgraded' when given the chance---Speech skills...by doing that even more dialogue options open up for you...I also chose some 'Perks' based on getting more dialogue options---I forget their names but I chose 2 specific perks, one which opened up dialogue options when talking to female NPC's and the other perk opened up dialogue for child character NPC's...both very useful (sometimes even opening up optional quests)...plus I like to experience as much of the game as possible and doing this accomplishes that

I just helped a victim recently as well who was being held prisoner by some Super Mutants on my way to Rivet City...I was actually thinking the whole time that this 'victim' was going to turn on me...but she didn't and I gained some good Kharma out of it by refusing her offer of a reward

still amazes me the level of detail in this game...so many little things to see and find...so many varied quests and sub-quests based on how you interact with certain NPC's

my only complaint about the game would be the fact that the developers capped your skill at 20...hopefully they will raise this number in a future patch as getting to 20 seems quite easy in such a huge game...I'm already up to Level 10 and I'm mostly concentrating on exploration

anyone receive 'The Replicated Man' android locater quest yet?...that sounds very interesting...the 'You Gotta Shoot 'Em In the Head' quest also is very long just like the Moira 'Wasteland Survival Guide' one

I can almost guarantee you that the level cap will only be increased through DLC or an expansion. I mean, come on, this is Bethesda were talking about .

Finally got the GeoMapper Perk!!! What a payday! (As in thousands of caps) Best frickin' quest so far!!! Long too!

Level cap at 20??? No big deal (so far) with the Skill Points and Perks I've selected.

At Level 8 I was comfortable and getting the results I wanted with my choices (I'm at Level 11 ATM). I'm getting one shot head shot kills on Raiders. Three to four shot kills on Master Super Mutant Brutes. Sneak is sufficient to get "close enough" to throw a land mine at them to soften em up. I don't have the Ghoul Mask yet but traveling through the tunnels Ghouls are one to two shot kills so it's no big deal. Talon is still a big problem though. I can only take those guys down on an isolated one on one basis. They are tough. But I just got the Ranger armor so we'll see how that goes. And I might not yet be strong enough yet to do in the Plazma creatures I've heard about. But I'm eager to try. That Combat Shotgun does wonders!

I have the Replicated Man quest. You can get that one in Megaton. I also got the Shoot Em In The Head quest. Got that one from Underworld.
Spoiler:
I talked the quest giver into accepting only one kill to receive full payment.

interesting...I only got that quest when I visited the Underworld and found an audio tape...after I listened to the tape the 'Replicated Man' quest got added to my Pip-Boy...I also got more info on this android from talking to a few ghouls in the Underworld

I have the Ghoul mask and it makes traveling the Metro Tunnels very easy as ghouls now see you as a friend and don't attack you anymore...with the amount of time it takes exploring those tunnels this is a must have accessory (plus my skills are high enough as it is and I don't want to level up so quickly)

There are three audio tapes in Megaton. You didn't find any of them?

I know what you mean by not wanting to level up too quickly (anymore). Level 8 to 10 is a nice Level to be. Higher Levels might be needed to take on the Talon swarm downtown though. And the downtown Sentry Bots who enjoy using missile launchers, laser gatling guns, and plasma guns.

I'm leaving the Ranger Compound now. I'm going to go get the Ghoul Mask.

I found a few audio tapes in Megaton but none of them were about the 'Replicated Man'...but so much stuff happens in this game that I forget some things...I need to go back and listen to some of the old tapes I have collected

I'm at Level 11 now and in no rush to level up anymore...I'm not having any trouble with any enemies that a few shots in V.A.T.S doesn't solve (Super Mutants, Talon Mercs etc)...I'm also using the Perk which causes most animals to be friendly towards me...that combined with the Ghoul Mask (which makes Ghouls friendly) helps slow down leveling a bit as you aren't killing as many enemies

I mentioned this earlier but I once again have received quests which have not shown up in my Pip-Boy...you definitely need to keep track of quests on your own and don't rely solely on the Pip-Boy...the latest one that didn't show up in my Pip-Boy was receieved from that bartender in the Underworld when he asks you to kill Greta (without using any guns) in exchange for signing over his personal bodyguard for you to use

I love the original fallout games. This is different, as you said a different vibe. But it is a good game and I was also very skeptical.

Dialogue is better than Oblivion. Exploring is worthwhile. The places are different, you can gain loot and cool quests. In oblivion, all you had to do was level up and the uber loot would come to you. Also, every dungeon was exactly the same. There is more variety here.

I'm glad I decided to give this game a shot!

amazing what happens when you open your mind and don't let your pre-conceived notions take over...

I remember an earlier post from you where you stated (a few days before the game's release) that you downloaded the manual through Steam and based solely on that () you were disappointed in the game...huh?...based on reading the manual?...based on looking at the 'Perks' and 'Skills' listed in the manual you made up your mind that the game would suck?...based on that you decided that the game was nothing like earlier Fallout games?...made no sense to me then and still makes no sense now

good to see you liking the game

I am still am disappointed with the perks. There are no real tough decisions - they are all too good. Part of fallout's charm was the +/-.

As I said, as a fallout game, ehh. But as a RPG without that expectation, it is pretty good.

Interesting article...not sure i'm nuts about the denser grass, but the increased view distance and LOD might be interesting...

looks nice!...in that first screenshot they not only changed the textures but added in an entire village in the background...the other screenies do a better job of improving the visuals without changing the atmosphere/setting
