Gold- Far Cry 2

Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 2 is gold, and the now-complete first-person shooter sequel is expected in stores for Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on October 21.

On a related note, there's a German-language report translated from the French Ubisoft Shop suggesting the shooter sequel will use the much reviled SecuROM for copy protection

The concept displayed in that vid seems way removed from the original Far Cry... reminded me a little of Battlefield 2 in the feel... but its only a limited vid...

Looks very removed to me too. I hope it's not constant boring soldier v soldier.

Bring back Jack and the trigens and a mystery.

Well, based on the video i guess that it has nothing to do aliens or mysteries.

Maybe some kind of Battlefield action wrapped up in Pulp Fiction story.

Greetings

Far Cry 2 DRM details

Far Cry 2, which just went gold yesterday, will utilize the exact same DRM scheme that has Spore and Crysis Warhead gamers up in arms on the forums and amazon.com user reviews. Ubi Forum Manager bukowski113 has posted all the details in the game's official forum:

-You have 5 activations on 3 separate PCs.

- Uninstalling the game “refunds” an activation. This process is called “revoke”, so as long as you complete proper uninstall you will be able to install the game an unlimited number of times on 3 systems.

- You can upgrade your computer as many time as you want (using our revoke system)

- Ubisoft is committed to the support of our games, and additional activations can be provided.

- Ubisoft is committed to the long term support of our games: you’ll always be able to play Far Cry 2.

**not so bad in my opinion...as long as 'uninstalling' the game refunds an activation then everything is fine for me...because I reformat my computer frequently the main thing is I did not want was to have my activations used up with each reformat

Two things about all that.

One, being speculative, just like BioShock, after six months to a year or so, you can install and activate it as many times as you want with no limits. No uninstalls are necessary.

Two, what a time waster! Now one has to spend a large chunk of time to uninstall and reinstall game programs (that's plural per this trend) instead of just bolting in a part.

Re: Far Cry 2

The same issue came up with Bioshock. I remember installing it once...finishing and uninstalling. It was no big deal for me. Now, the installs are unlimited...on Bioshock.

Not very informative are they? Does this replace 8.10? Do we install it over 8.10? Or is 8.10 superior to this?

And when 8.11 comes out, will it replace this?...

I would think it definitely replaces Catalyst 8.10 (otherwise there would be no point in releasing it)...un-install 8.10 and install these if you choose to use them as it includes both the Display Driver and Catalyst Control Center

as far as the 8.11 drivers...drivers are written months in advance of their release so I would assume these hotfix drivers are more recent then the upcoming 8.11 ones

I usually don't pre-order games but...GameStop is offering customers who pre-order Far Cry 2 an amazing deal!!...you get 6 additional missions (around 3 hours of gameplay) plus a full size foldout map of the entire gaming world...the real kicker is that they are offering all this for no additional cost!...for the exact same price as the 'regular' retail game you get the additional missions

for a game thats reportedly around 50 hours long an additional 3 hours might not seem like that big of a deal but to me it is...more gameplay!...you can pre-order through the GameStop website or any local GameStop store...I'm going to my local store on Monday to jump on this offer

I usually buy most of my games through GameStop anyway (Circuit City usually has cheaper prices so I also like to go there as well) so this is just a bonus for me...even the fold out map seems kinda cool

Gamestop.com - Buy Far Cry 2 - PC

Gaming Nexus - Far Cry 2 exclusive GameStop pre-order edition comes with a "bonus" - by Randy Kalista
