Angry Gggrrrrrrrrrr

I am trying to install ghost recon and desert siege. I am having a really big problem with it. I install ghost recon and restart the computer. I then try to install the expansion pack. It tells me I need ghost recon installed first. I figure it was just a bad install so I'll uninstall then reinstall. It goes through the uninstall but it doesn't uninstall it. So I figure I'll just delete all the files. Well there are some hidden somewhere. If anybody knows where I can find the rest of the files please let me know. I also tried running the install.exe from the cd but it tries to uninstall the game. Why can't the stupid thing just install over the old #%^#$ files.

Sounds like the registry entries it makes are still there so it thinks it's still installed. Try runnning regclean and then install it again.

That didn't work. I hope I don't have to reinstall windoze(Idid that on purpose) just so I can play a game.

Well what I would to is run 'regedit' and search for 'ghost recon' and delete all those keys. There is an uninstall key and a default path key that are probably causing your problems if they are still on your pc. Remember to backup your registry first.

How do I back up the registry? Never done it before. And if I have to use the backup to fix the registry how would I do that?

Personally I never back up the registry (i don't remember how to at the moment anyway), what I do is boot from a boot disk and run 'scanreg /restore' which gives you the option of loading the registry from 1,2,5,10
(or something like that) restarts ago. Make sure you don't restart to many times after making possibly dangerous changes and you will be fine. I really can't imagine destroying the registry though if you are only deleting things that say ghost recon. I add and delete stuff all the time and haven't broken it yet . Only thing that ever breaks it is when I run some stupid tweaking program that doesn't know what the hell it is doing.

Well, I got it to work. I did all the registry stuff and deleted what I could find. That didn't work and I decided to see what I could find on the CD for help. Said something about if you are having trouble getting it to install from the autorun menu to go to run and type x:\setup.exe. I did that and it worked.

Glad you got it working. Of course I always over look the simple solution. My next solution requires a double Ph.D. in physics and math so I'm glad it didn't come to that .
