wish Granter

Made it to the wish granter----but no wish

the thing won't acknowledge my presence....

I must have been BAD along the way....

found another level and am figiting my way through a new series of passage ways....to who knows where....

Picked up a new SMG to replace my broken GP37

The firefights inside NPP last all of about 3 seconds---very hard...

Found out why....

I've been playing the entire game on the VETERAN level (I thought I'd set it to the "Stalker" level)

Go figure.....

Did you climb around and get right up to it? its sorta complicated.
Spoiler:
Theres a ladder and then you need follow the path lit by fires. My wish was granted but it didnt work out too well. Thats a dead end anyway, game seems to stop there. I went on and fought through to discover the Monolith secret.

I'm currently racing through portals with firefights along the way in my exoskeleton suit.
The game just keeps getting better!

Looks like the exoskeleton suit is the strongest in the game but it has low rad proofing and you cant sprint in it. It does give a higher carrying capacity tho; 70.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. only has one patch so far?

What's the difference between the international patch and the U.S. patch? What's in one that's not in the other?

I'd like to know too. In most games the differences are just spelling but in this game that cant be it.

BTW I've added a game FAQ to the first post for newbies. Let me know if there is anything I should add/change.

Exo-suit

The Exo suit is definitely the way to go.....You can carry a LOT more

GP37-----Dragonov------Tunder S-14

And grenades----lots of grenades.....

And a combo of artifacts that will self heal you.

Get good at head shots....

Center of mass-----and they just keep comin over the trench line.....

Nuff said.....

Fought my way through the plant and the secret lab....

Then----the portals....

And-----the last fight and a superb cut scene.

The BEST shooter I've ever played!!!

What A Game!!!

And now I'll go back and start taking on all kinds of "side missions"....

The replayability of this game is AWESOME!!

Am definitely going to go down a notch as well to Stalker level----Veteran level was VERY tough....

I have the International Edition. The Collectors Edition only comes in the International version.

I'll let you know if I find something "funny".

About the ending..

Spoiler:

SPOILER Dont read unless you finished the game!
Spoiler:

I thought it was a bit abrupt. Went through that last portal and that was it. Was looking forward to some final battle with the bad guys.

Cut scene was well done, but I saw 8 of those green tubes, I thought there were only supposed to be 7 in the C-consciousness?

Awesome game! Hopefully developers will take notice of it (and also Far Cry) and make more fps games like this!

Need advice on supply storage

I am just about to go into red forest. I have put all my equipment in the box at the Freedom barrier and I wonder whether this is such a good idea. Will I pass again by the barrier before moving on the Pryapat? And what is the point of no return, when I have to equip everything I need to push on to NPP?
Thx

I never went back----took everything I could carry with me.

Zap tried to go back to his stash----said once you pass the Red Forest----it becomes infested with dogs---"an ammo sinkhole" he called it....

I had ammo and suits stashed back at the warehouses----never saw them again.....

Once I shut off the Antennas----it was COSTANT management of resources...

Loot EVERYTHING

Be careful on what weapons you carry....

Only carry the artifacts you need as you'll do no more real trading.....

If you notice your enemy seems to always be equipped with a certain type of weapon---equip the same for at least a minimal flow of ammo from looted bodies....

Shotguns are useless (at least they are in when playing the game at VETERAN level)---too slow a rate of fire

Really---Really----Really get good on head shots if you want to survive...

Put the little red bead of the scope exacty on the head for a sure one burst kill.

Best Weapon in close---Tunder S-14
Best General Purpose Scoped Weapon----GP37
Best Sniper-----SKv
Best Suit---Exo-Skeleton

And try to get a combo of artifacts that will self heal you-----invaluable when you run out of bandages and first aid kits!!!!!

Even with this strategy and a quick trigger....

The game is a pure challenge---fun as hell!

Thanks for the advice, sounds cool. I am on stalker difficulty, so I expect it will not be so challenging. As I have over 200,000 in cash, I think I will buy the exoskeleton from the Freedom trader, as it will also allow me to carry more supply. I tried the "put your inventory in a corpse" trick, but you cannot carry a corpse from one level to the next.

I will take the gun you advice. A good GP-37 is hard to find though, they seem to always jam. I would have liked taking the Bullfrog along, but since the Thunder has a grenade launcher, it will not be worth the additional weight. Guess I will focus on taking a good load of ammo.

Instead of a shotgun I was thinking of taking a .45 ACP gun, probably the UDP, as the Black Kite (or Big Ben) is too heavy. I have good .45 ammo, and the handgun is in a different slot, so probably more useful than a shotgun. I also find the additional punch of the shotgun over the Thunder not sufficient to off-set the lower rate of fire.

I have the Battery artifacts with +30 protection against electric damage and the Spring artifact with +30 protection against impact damage. Any use for those?

Guess

Heh...on "stalker" difficulty this game is much more difficult than Quake 4 was for me on "hard". However, I am old and infirm.

I just found out a great new way to get a new shiny GP-37 and to make a lot of cash. I am friend with Freedom (and with Duty), and I did not want to lose that by killing one of the Freedom soldiers to get his gun (though sometimes you can pull it of if you knife them and nobody sees you).

So I went to the main Freedom camp, to the guys sitting around the campfire with some creature being barbecued. There is a red gas bottle nearby, so I just rolled into in the middle of my "friends", slashed it once with the knife and ran for my life. The lone survivor was still friendly, and I looted my poor "friends" who didn't make it . Got myself an almost new GP-37 and sold the rest.

For good measure, I also slashed the guy garding Freedom's armory and sold the stuff I had left there when doing the "Get the Bulldog" raid. I made about 100,000 in a few minutes.

This whole Duty vs. Freedom game reminded me of Yojimbo / A Fistful of Dollars / Last Man Standing.

I just found a grenade launcher and a bunch of grenades to go with it in the basement of an abandoned farmhouse...sweet.
