the task does not seem to run out of time like most of the other side missions do so I'm thinking maybe the task cannot be completed until I finish another mission first

I hope I didn't kill Gordon...I usually clear out the entire area when I spot any enemies

And don't forget Gordon's PDA.

Do the best you can - it's got to be better than I have now, which is nothing. A simple vertical of the tenement to catch the stoop and roof if possible. A shot of Madison street facing N & S would be great. My first school was PS1 which has its rear (playground) located on Madison/Catherine.

Thanks

Jim

Actually, I would have been happy if they had some more labs in the game, X18 and X16 were pretty amazing levels. I remember Far Cry's indoor areas were pretty boring, but STALKER does it just right, really fits in with the game overall.

Lab XXX69 sounds really scary since there are no female bots in the game

thanks...finally found it...family rifle mission complete!!

was that really supposed to be Gordon Freeman?...the PDA just said his name was "Freeman" (see attachment)...although it did look like him

-I've been trying to find the Soul artifact but to no avail...I looked in the Garbage level, past the car park in the bandit hideout but could not find it anywhere...I found a whole bunch of Meat Chunk artifacts there surrounded by a lot of anomalies but no Soul...do artifacts randomly spawn?

Artifacts do randomly spawn.

There is a job that has a Soul artifact as a reward.

Spoiler:
It's one of the several 'kill a stalker' jobs from the BarKeep. He doesn't list them all at once. You have to do a few jobs for him and then he comes up with more new jobs.

I think the Family Rifle guy has a follow up job after you finish the Family Rifle job.

Has anyone heard any talk about 1.0004 patch, as to when it will be released? I have heard that it is in Q&A, and this is it.

rumored patch 1.0004 improvements

- optimized dual core support
- 15% FPS increase
- shader optimization, increasing FPS by 5-10%

Anton Bolshakov, project manager at GSC Game World, announced yesterday, that patch 1.0004 has been at THQ for some time for approval. Since there haven't been any reports about programming mistakes in patch 1.0004 on the part of THQ, it should be only a matter of days till the release

Changelog for patch 1.0004:

E3 2007: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky Revealed

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, is the next game in the post-apocalyptic first person shooter series from developer GSC GameWorld. The info, which comes from the UK based magazine PC Zone, reveals that this new game is actually a prequel to the first game Shadow of Chernobyl as it goes into the origins on one of the main characters of the first game.

Clear Sky has 50 percent of the original game's locations (but altered) and 50 percent new locations. The game is set for release in the first half of 2008. There is no word if the game's original publisher THQ will be involved in the new title.

Yes, this is totally fantastic news! I hope they stick to the forumula, improve the PDA and RPG aspects while introducing some new stuff. Sounds like they have a good plan there!

I think the STALKER franchise could go on for several sequels if they play their cards right as the scope is certainly there, potentially bigger than Half Life IMO.

New stuff to discover, new mysteries to solve! New artifacts to find!

BTW, I'm still replaying the game, but I had to drop the difficulty to veteran as I found master to be a touch too unrealistic. I'm just off to see doc, so I'm really taking my time with it this time through. Lots of exploring.

I think the fact that those guys have been working on the patch as well as the sequel is awesome, kudos to them! Looks like this game is going to have great ongoing support.

1.0004 will include that float32 mod which is where the fps gain must be coming from. I tried that mod but wasnt really impressed by it and found stability was affected because I had a lockup which I never had before.

The mod seem to reduce the HDR slightly which gave a less bright appearance to everything. I think the fps did go up but not by much. I also found the AI for the snorks changed. They seemed to be less aggressive, but I dunno, havent heard anyone else talk about this so maybe it was just me.

I think they have a lot of content from the original work they did which they can rapidly bring up to speed now, so the game may end up being what was originally promised before the cuts.
