| does't work though, at least it didn't use to. just copy all your .gcf files and your account folder to somewhere safe.

| A revelation came this evening. I got a popup on Steam letting me know that I had been charged for the game. (They said they would only charge after the game was released.) Now the "backup" feature works fine. I am guessing that until the transaction completed that they were "holding onto" their files for DoD:S. Makes sense.  OK--now that I have reported in, I am off to create mayhem.  |

|  Re: How to backup your HL2 (Steam) install. how does one really backup installed steam games ?  say what ? once a steam game has completed installing and has been decrypted it can then be run in offline mode, assuming it's a single player game/component. so.... apart from ghosting the drive shouldn't one be able to back up the game so that it does not require reactivation ? don't jump to conclusions now.  to clarify: i install half life 2. i play it in offline mode from then on. i decide to reinstall windows et al. how do i back it up so after reinstalling windows i restore hl2 without having to reactivate it ? there must be a way. why ? because if i never deleted that particular windows setup, i could play half life 2 in offline mode forever. |
