I think having only a few skills available at any one time adds to the sense of strategy of the game. Knowing how to use those skills in combination is what makes a good player (which I'm probably not).

i get by with 8, but you get so many skills per class, its a shame you don't get to use more of them. there are spells from both professions that never leave my hotbar. its usually the enhancements that i have to shuffle around. i probably wouldn't mind the
8 key limitation if you could shuffle spells while exploring (not in combat mode), but as it is you can only change them when you hit town.

I think the challenge (and difference) of Guild Wars is that you can't change mid stride. Say you come across a bunch of caster - I switch to a 16 in Domination, a huge group of warriors, illusion magic with epidemic. I gain inifintely more power by being able to switch skills rather than having to plan ahead and prepare.

i'm not saying you should be able to change spells in battle, but you do spend a considerable time just walking around the map discovering new areas. its that downtime that i think you should be able to switch spells.

on another note, last night i logged on and the game downloaded a huge file, which i thought nothing of (figuring it was patch day). as soon as i got to the character screen though, all my characters were wearing the default armor, which admittedly made me nervous.

so then i logged one of my characters on and during zoning, the game downloaded yet another big file. long story short, everytime i zoned or logged a different character, the game downloaded a file.

did anyone else experience this?

This morning when I logged in with a character that I created yesterday, he was wearing his pre-searing collector armor on the login screen. A couple of seconds later, he popped into his post searing merchant armor.

No whacky downloading though.

I didn't have to dowload anything when I logged on this morning. My armor looked the same boring thing too.

Does anyone know if you can get Black Dye in Pre Searing? If so I may have to start another character and just have them farm for stuff then and put it in my chest to pass on to my other characters.

Yeah, you can definitely find black pre-searing. It seems like it's popping more often now. I got two yesterday...maybe coincidence.

hmmm maybe there isn't for pre-searing. Though I guess I can always get them to Post searing then have them stick it into storage.

Pre-searing the only extra storage you can get is a pouch. Post searing you can get a chest that's shared between all four characters on the account and two bags. The bags can be upgraded from five slots to ten with runes of holding.

I guess one of the drawbacks of not having a monthly fee is not being able to dedicate a ton of database storage to each character.

no there isn't. at least i haven't seen a storage npc on any town in pre-searing. the dye drops have definitely increased though, although i have yet to get a black dye drop.

i've had four dye drops by the time my elementalist was 5 which is more than i got on my necro in pre or post searing.

k, stupid question time. i came upon a rune last night that was supposed to add more health points. its a gold item, so is it safe to assume that only an expert salvage kit can be used on this?

it was a drop during one of the missions i did and i didn't want to mess it up by salvaging it with a regular kit.

the second stupid question is.. what exactly happens when you ascend? i've never seen this in game nor talked to anyone who has done it.

Anytime you get a Rune I think you need to use a Expert Salvage Kit to unlock it from that item dropped. Sounds like you got a Superior Rune of Vigor which will be nice to have. Where were you when you got it?

Ascending means you have passed the test of the Gods and it opens up more of the game. I have not beaten the game yet. Not sure how much more I have to go, but where I am at now it is way tough. The henchmen are now lvl 20.
