That is the thing that turned me off with regard to The Witcher--which I am not likely to ever play or purchase. I have a family, and the last thing anyone needs to see is dad playing a "game" with questionable content and a collection of cards that record my character's "conquests." (I do not know how it works, but when I read it in a review, it became a deal-breaker for me.) It may have appealed to me when I was in college and single, but I no longer fall into that category.

Every such encounter is entirely optional. You can pretty much tell which dialog option will bring you there. From a game design perspective, I'm not sure where they were going with it. I almost think that they just wanted to do something controversial to get free publicity.

I understand. Still, this is in a similar vein to the Hot Coffee minigame in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. A lot of people probably did not mod GTA: SA to make it available. Still, it was available--and the availability was the issue with GTA: SA and is similarly the issue with The Witcher. I agree it has no real purpose in the game, unlike finding a secret scroll, unlocking a gate to a fortress, or defeating an evil wizard that is trying to take over the world. Perhaps a couple incidents could be excused, but to make a minigame out of it like collecting baseball cards is going too far in my opinion. Let me add that I am in no way criticizing anyone who liked the content or owns the game. I am just stating that it is a deal-breaker for me.

I completely understand. My wife and I just had our first child a few months ago. I would probably not play that game with him around if he was a few years older.
