| Opinions: Best current flight sims? I have MS FS2002pro, CFS1 & CFS2, but am looking for something new. My biggest concerns are the quality & reality of the graphics & flight model. What are the best ones currently available? Opinions? Thanks! Peter

| I think IL Sturmovik is regarded as a FS with a pretty accurate flight model. I've played it and it seemed pretty good to me.

| I was pondering this and it seems to be between two games Battlefield 1942 and CFS3. I decided to get CFS3 as one of my son's xmas gifts. It seems to offer more in terms of strategy than CFS2. There is also supposed to be cooperative missions in CFS3.

| I was always partial to the MS ones, but sometimes I'm lured to combat flight simulators though those don't seem to be as accurate as the non-combat ones.

| i think IL-2 is the best right now. CFS3 is a bit buggy. seems to have a memory leak. if they have a fix for CFS3 i would like that better than IL-2 because you have choice of missions and planes. IL-2 if you do the german campain you only get to fly the BF109. i was wanting to try the FW190 as for graphics IL-2 is purdy. and the clouds look so cool. CFS3 isnt bad. but not as sharp. |

| Don't forget about the "old" Falcon 4.0. With the Superpak, it is a very realistic flight model. If you do go for it, buy it off eBay, but make sure you get the full manual. It is over 500 pages and you will be totally lost without it. The PDF for the Superpack is like another 190 pages.

| I'll give IL2 a try. I just downloaded the demo from a painfully slow server. Took forever, but I got it. Thanks everyone! ![]()

| IMO: *Combat Jet : "Jane's FA-18 TSH 1.0", "Falcon4.0 SP3" at the moment & LOMAC is coming... *Civil sim: FS 2002 no doubt *WWII sim: IL-2 at the moment & by the way "Forgotten Battles" is coming ... |

| WWII - IL2 Sturmovik stands head and shoulders above the rest ... graphics and otherwise... needs mucho muscle machine (but what flightsim doesn't) Modern Jets - Falcon4 Superpack3 iteration will have no competition until Lomac (hopefully) raises the bar again. Graphics are a little dated, but not bad with the multitude of user mods (512 skins recently!) Civil - FS2002 is prettier but supposedly X-Plane cannot be beat for flight models...don't have personal experience of X-Plane Early Jets - StrikeFighters by Thirdwire is a work in progress....buggy as hell right now, but the develper"TK" is the force behind the old European Air War and IMHO will surmount the problems if given time and resources. "Mig Alley" by Rowan is a bargain title at this point and is well worth the few bucks expended btw. (go to SIMHQ website for enhancements and WinXP fixes) Just my opinion |

| Old but still going strong.......... My vote goes to "Flight Unlimited III" which I think stems back to the 1998 or 1999. It has the most realistic flight dynamics (except perhaps the "X-plane" according to some). FU III's scenery and weather simulation are also worth mentioning as is its ATC capability. It is no longer obtainable through the trade but the AVSIM-forum (www.avsim.com) has pointers to sources where it can be bought. Also over at the AVSIM-forum there are a crowd of "hard core" simmers that are designing new aircrafts and scenery. Its biggest drawback (to some) is that the scenery is limited to the north west of US but then that scenery is more detailed and realistic than most of the add-ons for MS FS2002. |
