P55/I7-860 performance over a X48 E8500 C2D ?

I'm considering an upgrade of my 4870 to a 5850x2 for gaming and just wondering about my other components.

I'm currently running an X48/E8500 combo... anyone have any idea about performance difference to say a P55/I7-860 combo in gaming?
(assuming all else the same)...

My gut feeling is that the difference would be small... in the region of 5 fps... depending on the particular game... the video card is the major determinant ...

anyone else have any idea about this? seen any benchmarks?

what about 3DMark? Any of the tests in the bought version useful? (i remember the last time i bothered with that was around 2001, before the emphasis on "total" system performance...) ...

I would guess you could be CPU bound using a E8500. If a given game is CPU bound in the first place you will see way more than a 5fps loss. I'd say 10-30% loss. If the game supports more than 2 cores and the game is CPU bound it would be much worse. On the other hand if the game is GPU bound and cant use the extra cores 5fps sounds reasonable. Have a look here.

what a great tool, thanks for pointing it out, i haven't seen that before.
The theory pretty much holds up with all the gaming scores within 10 frames, except check out FC2, what a difference a few cores make
