Seriously, this looks pretty awesome. I still play Starcraft with friends all the time at a LAN at our work. It's awesome. But, to have a re-vamped version should be pretty cool.

After a decade of computer gaming I'm a little RTS'd out. There's only so many times you can send out your harvesters and build a bunch of tanks. Pass.

Heh. I was looking at that link above thinking "exactly how much difference is there between the Command&Conquer I played on a Pentium 60, 85 years ago, and this stuff?".

Well I could do it one more time... if it were something at least slightly different. SC2 seems to have the exact same units & interface as the first one, except it looks a little bit fancier. Thumbs down, except the intro video of course!

If you play StarCraft the same way for the past 11 years then yes, you can get burnt out. But, with the map creator and all the editing you can do in this game you can create a ton of different styles to play with.

Either way, it appears they've really vamped the system in SC2. If you guys watch the gameplay footage, you'd see that there are some of the original components that made StarCraft so awesome in the beginning but with a bunch of new stuff to keep it interesting for a while.

I can't wait.

I am not necessarily RTS'ed out. But I am picky about how the mechanics of an RTS works. This is why I cannot play any RTS except Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. I tried Command and Conquer 3 and it is not that good compared to the mechanics of the previous mentioned games. The same goes for Supreme Commander, which is very lacking IMO.

I have no desire to get SCII. I may someday, but it will not be my intent to do it for a long time. I will look for something that is more DoW and CoH ish.

Have you tried World of Warcraft:Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne? Excellent I thought.

And there was a turn based strategy Rome Total War that I have here but havent played much of, looks good.

Starcraft 2 Split Into 3 Games

Blizzard today announced that StarCraft II will be released as a trilogy of separate games, each concentrating on one of the universe's three factions...The first game in the trilogy will consist of the Terran campaign, and is set to be titled "Terrans: Wings of Liberty."

The second Zerg-focused title will be "Zerg: Heart of the Swarm," with the third game being "Protoss: Legacy of the Void."

"[The second and third games] will be like expansion packs, but we really want them to feel like standalone products," said Blizzard's Rob Pardo...

Re: Well, it's official........

I can see why they tried to keep it as close as possible to the first game, the fan base is pretty large for such an old game and it's a game heavily played in eSports, so drastic changes probably would scare away most of the old fans.

On the other hand i don't get it why ppl still play blizzard games anyways, sure they are very polished, but those graphics are hideous and gameplay is often far from complex enough to keep me interested.
I remember when i bought Diablo2, it was very fun to play for a while, but it was also pretty much the only game left which still had a 2D engine, i remember me and my friends making fun about how Diablo2 looked worse than Diablo1.
Granted, it's not as bad with Warcraft, WoW or Starcraft in this case, but look at those screenshots, those graphics look like some sort of comic, everything is kinda "bumped" and cute looking, characters move like in some TV cartoon and i've played games 5 years ago that had more world detail than SC2.

I guess Blizzard is trying to play it safe and use concepts that have proven to be accepted by enough players. Guess that's fine, if i where a fan i would like that, but on the other hand no innovation is kinda lame.
I also loved Dawn of War for example and i can't wait to see Dawn of War 2 and its totally different RTS approach.
